I'm 39. I've always laughed at the idea of retirement because I always figured my parents' generation would raid its coffers and cut taxes to avoid paying for the next generation.
So far, my prediction has held strong.

We really should be talking more about how many people under 40 *absolutely believe* they'll never be able to retire.
That feels like a somewhat recent phenomenon, at least as compared to the expectations of their parents at the same age.

I think it’s also longer term issues like I don’t know anyone under 40 who thinks they’re ever retiring. Or like if you know you’re priced out of owning a home or retirement you’re building toward what? Getting to rent an overpriced studio with fewer problems?
