Within me are two wolves: "Subtlety is Neat" and "Loved Michael Crichton at Age 14."
All this talk about how infodumping is a neurodivergent trait—listen, we grew up reading SFF in the Nineties, OF COURSE we infodump. Y’all are lucky we’re not a full on italicized prologue.

I hate suplexes. The kid performing one on mine wound up hurting himself with it. Ugh, neck injuries. Just no.

High school wrestling meet, and the music is plucked from my high school CD player. Elder millennials are the A/V decision makers now. And our kids are in high school. Anyway, nice to have something to sing along to.

For anyone wondering, some possible dog names have survived from cuneiform sources.

On tiny dog figurines found buried under a palace in Nineveh, Iraq are inscriptions that seem to be names.

dan rigiššu “loud is his bark”

munaššiku gārîšu “biter of his foe”

mušēṣi lemnūti “expeller of evil”

Being a writer is almost entirely about perseverance. Life is going to continuously try to keep you from writing or from getting published or from getting things made, and you just have to get in life's way and say “No.”

As we head into 2025, I'll be sharing 25 MEDICAL HISTORY OBJECTS starting with...

#1) 5,000-year-old prosthetic eye made of bitumen paste with lines radiating out from iris. Worn by a 6’ tall woman (possibly a priestess), found near the city of Zabol in Iran. The eye would have been painted gold.

Lovely little Romano-British brooch in the form of a hare 😍

The artisan who made this brooch some 1,900 years ago, gave the hare a cheerful little face! Copper alloy decorated with enamel.

Autumn. As always, after a too-hot summer, want to go camping and hiking in the chill. But kiddo’s high school sport schedule is insanity, and I didn’t plan ahead. What to do?

Pic of camping trip last fall to tide me over.

The most important thing in writing is to finish. A finished thing can be fixed. A finished thing can be published. A finished thing can be made into a movie.

An unfinished thing is just a dream. And dreams fade if you don't hold on tight enough.

So finish the thing.

This blond tart approached me in a coffee shop and gave me a kiss. A year later she owns my lap, the house, and everything in it, based on the reach of her hair.
