The #WeAintBuyingIt movement urges people not to shop at Amazon, Home Depot or Target between Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Of course, the more you can support small local businesses rather than pouring money into the coffers of bad-acting retailers, the better. bit.ly/weaintbuyingit

The depth of the shame of a country this wealthy and abundant allowing its people to go hungry is impossible to measure. The fact that a handful of people could fix this by paying their fair share of taxes while still remaining obscenely wealthy makes it even worse.

Me and my sons, such fine young men. Hallowed be the Dutch angles in Doubt.
🚨 face reveal of the Chasing Amy Adams crew 🚨

Here's hoping Sunday mass averted any lingering crisis of faith so you're primed and ready to listen to our episode on Doubt with @dreaclark.bsky.social from @maximumfilmpodcast.bsky.social!

It is very hard for me to take in characters doing distinctive accents without (poorly) mimicking them, so the fact that I didn't do this whole podcast trying to replicate Meryl Streep's Bronx nun voice is a personal achievement. Amy Adams holds her own, which was my goal with Dane and Louis.
Today we’re talking about the 2008 drama Doubt with special guest @dreaclark.bsky.social.

Plus: the horror of Dutch angles, the moment Amy became offer-only, and Kirk Douglas shilling for Casa Zeta-Jones.

Great stuff from some young readers in Iowa with lessons for us all! Start where you are, build your community, keep pushing on policy, & have fun! And for any grown-ups in the room, sometimes the best action you can take is supporting the action of the young people in your community
When books were being pulled from Iowa classrooms, these teens started an after-school club to read them
Three Iowa City West high schoolers founded a book club that reads some of the country's most frequently banned books after a state law removing books with sexual content was signed in 2023. Two years...

My mom and her BFFs from small town Nebraska are on vacation in Portland, OR... they've gone to a drag show and posed with the queens ("we learned a lot"), and drove by the ICE facility ("no protestors or violence"). These retired gals are revved up to drop truths all over Midwestern facebook.

LIFE AFTER is a gripping investigative documentary directed by disabled filmmaker Reid Davenport, looking at disability justice, healthcare, and autonomy, and available to rent from the film team directly on GATHR from Oct 6-13. Thought-provoking and worth the view and ensuing discussions!

One Battle After Another and Sinners both lay out a formula for cinema success: diverse movies where white nationalists get duffed in the most graphic way possible shot and presented in increasingly baroque high resolution formats.

Robert Redford was a true movie star and a brilliant director, and at the top of his game he spent his cultural currency to build an institution to foster and support independent film. His dedication to valuing new perspectives and emerging talent will forever inspire me. RIP to a champion.

I prepped for a month, labored over the perfect list, and squabbled with a bunch of lunatics to make an 11.5 hour long episode that can only be heard by Screen Drafts boosters. Loved it! With hobbies like these, who needs enemies.

This movie has Manny Jacinto doing a British accent AND a whole section of Johnny Castle’s mambo from Dirty Dancing, and if they had played into those things more it would’ve been great/appreciated by me.
Started typing "it doesn't get freakier than this!" but let's face it: this is a family film. Yes, we're talking FREAKIER FRIDAY this week, and freaking out about our guest, Mary Lynn Rajskub! Then we talk about some great and terrible sequel titles. #filmsky

Like many people with excellent taste, In the Mood for Love is one of my forever favorites and hopefully I managed to articulate why without just repeating how gorgeous Tony Leung is (and yes of course Maggie Cheung as well, I have eyes, would love to be stuck in a room with either of them, etc).
'In the Mood for Love' turns 25 this year, so we're giving it some love, with very special guest John Powers (who's interviewed Wong Kar-Wai extensively). Plus, re-setting period movies in new eras, movie marketing gambits, & we know where Pee-Wee's bike is! #filmsky
