My college football hot taek today in the hour when all college football thoughts get lost: The Nos. 5 & 6 seeds are gonna be wildly important again this year.
— Host a Playoff game
— vs. Georgia Tech or North Texas or Virginia or James Madison
— Dodge Ohio State until the semis, if not the title.

Notre Dame has won three Senior Days under Marcus Freeman by a combined score of 124-21.
Good luck with that, Syracuse.

SP+ is updated! Texas Tech's back up to 3rd, Georgia's rising, only a TD separates No. 5 from No. 21, and ... yuck, NC State/UCF/Purdue/La Tech.

Oklahoma winning yesterday probably cut into Notre Dame's chances at a home Playoff game, which would lessen my personal joy this December.

But the Sooners making the Playoff should bring joy to all of us college football fans.

If we assume Texas is toast, the preseason Nos. 1, 2, 4, 9, 11, 12, 13, 15, 16 and 17 have no shot at the playoff.

James Madison lost at Louisville.
North Texas lost to South Florida.

Are their possible 12-1 records really that different?
I think North Texas gets in ahead of JMU.

And Tulane, too. Beat Duke and Northwestern. Lost to Mississippi and UTSA.
Is that 11-2 really worse?
Navy's blowout loss to Notre Dame was non-conference, but it will probably keep Navy outta the American title game.

AAC uses advanced rankings as its tiebreaker. That blowout loss factors into those.

North Texas and Tulane have a hefty edge in them. Likely American title game.

SEC title game scenarios:
Texas A&M: Beat Texas, please. If you lose, I think you miss the title game because your schedule featured the five worst teams in the SEC.

Three-team tie at 7-1: Alabama in.
Alabama tops Georgia if both at 7-1.
And Georgia tops Mississippi if both 7-1.

Can Miami still make the ACC title game?
Sure.
If Pittsburgh beats Georgia Tech, Louisville or Cal beats SMU or Virginia Tech beats Virginia, Miami then beats Pittsburgh and oh yeah either North Carolina or Wake Forest has to beat Duke.

Even for the ACC, that'd be a lot.
ACC title-game scenarios:
Georgia Tech: Beat Pittsburgh, in.
Then if both Virginia and SMU win out, it would be TIGHT on opponents' winning percentage.

Pittsburgh: Need SMU or Virginia to lose. If Pitt beats GT but both SMU and VA win out, then SMU and VA make the title.

First time in six weeks I could write later without costing myself (too much).
Immediately defaulted back to 4 a.m.

Bad habits die hard, I tell ya.
Motivation needed to kill 'em dead.
Alright, closing this hellscape to write for a couple hours.
The goal for the next month is to rework my Saturday process so I am getting to bed by 1 a.m., if not midnight.
Believe in me, will ya? I don't.

Oh we just had a legitimate punch thrown by a Utah defensive back.
Didn't escalate into anything all-out, but I think that was a full fist right at a Baylor helmet.

ehhh, maybe open-handed, but multiple.

Both Naz Reid and Jonas Valanciunas are about THAT life.
One of few in the NBA who can match Naz in that energy.
And still Naz looked at him, smirking, "What? WHAT?"

One week later, I wonder anew, how much is Jamey Chadwell's buyout at Liberty?
The last tab I close tonight is a search for Jamey Chadwell's buyout.
I don't think we know, Liberty being a corrupt and private institution and all.
But we do know his contract is for about $4 million/year with four years left on it. So that is $16 million Chadwell is hoping for ...

ppl replied "Bears played there for 50y" so I looked up the last time there was a home walkoff loss in Wrigley Field and you know what? It never happened to the Bears. (gave up lots of late, losing scores, but never on the last play of the game)

ditto the other teams that played at Wrigley
I do want to congratulate Northwestern on being the first *home* team to ever lose on a walk-off at Wrigley Field
