Yeah, the idea that campuses don't have enough "debate" is a red herring. Good thread here from Joe:
The right sets the terms of our political discourse in so many ways, one of which is the idea that there isn't enough "debate" and "free speech" on campus.

We need to push back on this. The truth is (speaking for myself as a history prof), I don't really emphasize debate much in my classes/

"Liberals already ruined it" shows the plot here. These aren't impartial law enforcement officers protecting all citizens. They are partisan paramilitary militia, terrorizing domestic opponents.
While masked agents were violently attacking a delivery worker this morning, bystanders repeatedly asked to see their badge numbers but they refused.

Bystander: You guys are ruining this country, you know that, right?

Agent: Liberals already ruined it.

I don't know whether to be encouraged that everyone else is finally embracing traditional conservative arguments for free trade, or dismayed that "conservatives" have forgotten them.
Folks on the right should find that red line to be deeply, deeply embarrassing

The Biden Admin, for all its flaws, understood that restricting Russia's oil revenues was a complex balancing act. Trying to cut Russian oil off from the market completely would just spike oil prices, hurt ourselves, and maximize incentives to cheat.

President Donald Trump added further pressure to India on Wednesday by bumping up tariffs to 50% — but calls for India to immediately stop buying Russian oil could cause global crude prices to spike, industry sources told CNBC.
Why India is in Trump’s crosshairs when crude is not even sanctioned

I will personally write Hassett a $1000 check if he can find a single voter who based his or her voting decision of the official statistics put out by BLS or BEA. That's just not how voters form impressions or make decisions about the economy, one way or the other.

People have trouble interpreting this. Nobody’s saying Donald Trump or Pam Bondi are personally selecting Nazi iconography. They don’t read enough for that. The point is they hire and promote Nazis who ARE steeped in Nazi iconography, and they’re fine with it.
Oh look, ICE is copying literal Nazi recruiting propaganda again. The poster on the right is for the Volkssturm, the Nazi militia of older men and boys established during the final months of World War II.

The failures of the 1970s; the emergence of Clinton's "ignore my character, I'll give you what you want" deal; dividing the center/left coalition in the face of Trump; the party's takeover by too many young activists. If you can't see how the Dems also failed, I can't spend Sunday explaining it.
"a party whose excesses and feckless decisions *also* had a lot to do with the rise of authoritarian populism. (Populism was once a thing among the Democrats.)" can you expand on that? Because that sounds an awful lot like "baby boomer bothsidesing".

In 2016, I was part of a group advising a variety of GOP presidential candidates on issues such as the economy and China. I was asked if I would also advise the Trump campaign. This is exactly the reason why I said "no". He doesn't want advisors, he wants sycophants and window dressing.

One of the things about JD Vance is that he is completely 100% aware that what he is doing is evil and has made a deliberate, conscious choice to do evil to get power. He’s not self-deluded or dumb. He hasn’t drunk Kool-Aid. He’s decided to do evil for power.

NEW: Pete Hegseth sent a letter to Congress on Tuesday announcing that the Department of Defense will allow DHS to detain immigrants on two military bases: Fort Atterbury in Indiana and Fort Dix in New Jersey.

There is no further detail at this time as to when or how this will be done.

This is not about the merits of Iran’s nuclear program. No president has the authority to bomb another country that does not pose an imminent threat to the US without the approval of Congress. This is an unambiguous impeachable offense.

See ... he's trying to equate dissent with terrorism. Explicitly.
The official VP office response leans into the Jose Padilla stuff — says that Vance confused two Padillas who’ve “broken the law.”

Trolling, obviously. But trying way too hard. Jose Padilla is a convicted terrorist. Alex Padilla didn’t break any law and wasn’t charged with a crime.
The magnitude of this gaffe depends on whether you remember Jose Padilla, the terrorist who’s in prison.
