If the only thing that wins is the runaway viral hit, if all that the media can talk about, if all the streamers can play is that one viral game.

Then passion , art and experimentation dies.... because all that is left to survive...... is to gamble and become that game.

That is 2025...

Valve’s 6x6” Steam Machine is about the same size as the box the Mac Mini comes in.

Adam Saltsman just gave the best talk about the process of game design that I’ve ever seen. Bravo.

Incredible investigation of the journey an idea goes through, and smart breakdown of the intrinsic and extrinsic forces tugging on the project. A must watch.

Are there any must play games for Vectrex or is mostly a curiosity?
The Vectrex Mini is very cute.

I recently bought a little CRT TV and it feels great to use. Sometimes you just need some of the original flavour.

An excellent look at the value of tedium in games.

Games programming peaked when the graphics were visible in the source code.

This type of incidental humour is the very best type of in-game writing. It doesn’t interrupt gameplay. It rewards attentiveness, immersion and gentle curiousity.

I love the idea of revisiting parts of games which have been discarded. Bringing back passwords is a curious relic and inconvenience that I’d love to explore.
the first word that comes to mind is "inconvenient".... they turn saving and loading into a manual process, tedious and mysterious, yet more concrete and easily shared than a "save file".... the ritual of careful recording and entry.... maybe the real question is what i like about inconvenience
i don't think i have ever asked but i am curious! if you had to put it into words, what do you like about passwords?

It's done! Silly #oeufgame controller. (Thanks to @mrlucagames.bsky.social and @robinwobbles.bsky.social for help with construction).

I wish all public safety warnings were presented like this. Love the style here.
Mississippi Power commissioned this educational video that plays like an isometric game. I did art direction, animation and code on it. The child actors were adoarable.

Neat development platform for making Genesis/mega drive games, along the lines of GB studio in terms of letting non-coders get something moving on screen. They've now got their documentation updated so folks can get started making things.
After several months of writing, we've finished the 1.0 version of the MD Engine docs!

We're reviewing the spelling + grammar and finishing the examples web versions!

Hey everyone. I’ll be honest, I’ve run out of rope on this “being a writer” business, to the point where my site either takes off, now, or I start applying for whatever local shop/cleaning jobs are available. This isn’t a “threat”, just an honest statement of where I am. Sorry.

I’m watching a jerk on ‘game dev youtube’ say “Prototypes tell you whether you are gifted”. This is wrong.

Prototypes are one of many tools that lets you understand the potential of the game. They’re not a measure of skill. Abandon conceits like being ‘good enough’ and just do the work.

This is an excellent video on designing for accessibility. Highly recommended viewing. Inspirational work!!
Talk is live on youtube, if you enjoyed the game you'll probably enjoy this as it covers a lot of what makes Squeakross unique compared to other nonograms!
