Funny how the US has basically the government of Iran now: Supreme Leader who rules by decree, priestly council with token opposition that decides whether the decisions are okay or not on arcane scriptural grounds, and completely ceremonial legislature

Just finished @amalelmohtar.com's The River Has Roots. Damn. Kind of can't stop crying. Not just the novella itself, but the bonus short story, and also the acknowledgments. Damn. Hoping to recover soon, but also sort of not.

Apropos of, you know, absolutely nothing at all.

This. Exactly this.
Not that it wasn't that before of course, but the two were conflated in my mind, intertwined in a weird but feeling inseparable way.

Not so now.

I think it's because people chose to do this a 2nd time, knowingly.

With any luck at all, the FBI and CIA will be destroyed, or at least hobbled.
oh holy shit
EXCLUSIVE: Candidates for national security roles in the new administration have been posed loyalty questions, such as: Was Jan. 6 an inside job, and Was the 2020 presidential election stolen? They were asked to give straight "yes" or "no" answers. Here's our story.

Anyway all Republicans are despicable fucking human beings and should be shunned from polite society if any such thing still exists, Jesus fucking Christ blaming a tragic plane crash on diversity to cover the fact that you fucked the FAA, just the biggest pieces of shit in the world.

Some might be confused by some of the pardons from the ‘Law & Order’ tough on crime guy but it’s very important for fascists to send a strong message establishing to their supporters that a crime is not an act, it’s a type of people who fall into certain classes.

A better world is possible
Air pollution has dropped significantly in #Paris in the last 15 years. Mayor @annehidalgo.bsky.social’s leadership has traded car space for green space, safe bike space, kid space.. and traded pollution for people.

Good trade.

Feeling a little ambivalent about the Hegseth nomination. On the one hand, he's a terrible person who would be terrible at managing the American military. But on the other hand, he could dramatically weaken the American military.

To carry 50,000 people per hour in each direction, a city needs a 175m wide road for cars.

Even if those cars are electric.

And then there’s all the parking.

OR a city can move A LOT MORE people in a lot less space, with A LOT LESS public money, emissions, pollution, noise etc.

Choices.

Simple.

Bike lanes are even better for people who never ride bikes than for people who do ride bikes because it keeps the bikes out of the lanes they are driving in and they don't even have to be out there in the rain and snow putting in all that effort! They get to just sit, all safe, not killing anyone!

1. Build a ton of housing
2. House those who need it
HOUSING THE HOMELESS SAVES MONEY IN FINLAND: “a recent study showed the savings in emergency healthcare, social services & the justice system totalled as much as €15,000 a year for every homeless person in properly supported housing.”

It works AND it saves money.

i'm so bikepilled now to the point where if i have to sit in traffic in my car for hours basically the first thing i do when i get home is go to the gym because being so sedimentary makes me feel lose my mind. humans are not meant to sit in metal boxes we are meant to feel the breeze on our face.
the cool thing about socal is that if you are too far to bike and aren't along the narrow transit areas it's a three hour round trip by car no matter the distance or time of today.

regretting my decision to accept free lunch from a work event, even if it meant hanging with bisexual women. it sucked

This feels real
When my generation was growing up, we couldn’t wait to be adults.

My kids, OTOH, mostly feel like their childhood, free of adult responsibilities, is the best time.

And as an adult in the 21st century, I feel like they’re right.

It’s not a good feeling.

I miss feeling real hope for the future.
