For those deliberately misleading people tonight that a Trump retweet means he is souring on Putin, please cast your mind back almost a year ago to this Trump tweet threatening Putin. It’s a regular tactic Trump used to trick fools. There are sadly lots of them.

On the last day of 2025, I tried to sum up in this free piece the big stories of the year. Boil it down, however, and one story surpasses all others, be that for the Russo-Ukraine war or global geopolitics overall.
2025 was the year when the USA changed sides

After a peace agreement with "ironclad" security guarantees: Russia storms Ukrainian positions in Donbas, Zelenskyy calls Trump and ask for military support. Trump responds that he spoke with Putin who says that nothing happened, and Putin never lies.

Just sent out this piece about the Trump-Zelensky-Putin pantomime yesterday. People who think this brought peace closer cannot face the truth. This meeting was a continuation of Trump's efforts to help Putin and demean Ukraine. And he succeeded. open.substack.com/pub/phillips...
Why the Pantomime? Its Always Been About Defending Putin
And Perhaps Getting A Nobel Prize

When it comes time to write the history of Europe in this period, there will be one area of consensus. One of the greatest errors European states ever made, was in trusting the USA.

Russia bans Twitter (which Elon Musk calls "X") but the Kremlin-backed Trump regime takes no action against it. In fact, the U.S. is easing sanctions.

The EU imposes a trivial fine on Twitter for breaking the law and the Trump regime freaks out.

The U.S. is a puppet of Russia.

Just released this piece. The VA story released yesterday about the inner workings of the Trump administration is the most important yet. For Ukraine and it supporters it confirms that Putin is planning to take all of Ukraine (and Trump is therefore helping him).

Quick Q to media: what if DJT calls up a briefing where he tells you that today is June, the beach season has begun and all have to get ready to suntan despite the heatwave all across America? Will you just post/print/repeat it?

Because that’s what you’ve doing all this time and it’s just… boring

All Trump supporters must acknowledge this. Their backing of the president means that they support the forced transfer of millions of Ukrainians from a democracy to a corrupt and brutal dictatorship.
This is the America you have made. Own it.

Something has changed. A side of America that most Europeans never encountered face to face is now in charge. Europe had a decade of warnings and the first Trump Administration to prepare for this. We chose not to.
To meet this moment and secure our future, we must also change.

Whatever comes out of them, today's talks in Moscow are a diplomatic all-time low for the US. Incompetent, mercurial envoys trying to reset relations w one of the worst regimes in the world at the expense of the victim of unprovoked aggression and the security of America's best allies in Europe.

This peace deal only has 3 steps.
1. Russia gets the land
2. Trump gets a bribe
3. Ukraine gets an empty promise

Ukraine is the only fighting defender of Western civilization.

NATO is a joke.

Germany, Britain and France are useless.

The United States, under the Trump regime, is on invader Russia's side.

Dear leaders of NATO and EU nations,
STOP KISSING TRUMP'S ASS.
STOP TRYING TO PLEASE HIM.
STOP PRAISING HIM FOR 'FURTHERING PEACE' WHILE HE COERCES UKRAINE TO CAPITULATE TO RUSSIA.
APPEASING TRUMP WILL BE AS EFFECTIVE AS APPEASING PUTIN!!!!!
Do better. Much, much better.

The European Union and Canada have used a "peace plan" written in Moscow as the template for a new "acceptable" Ukrainian capitulation plan. This is what we call Russian victory. Our leaders are FAILING us.

Despite all the high-minded and supportive sounding rhetoric, it is next to impossible to believe that the West actually genuinely cares about Ukraine's existence beyond its role as a 'buffer' between Russia and the EU.

Ukraine never wanted this war. Russia invaded our country. Nobody in this world wants peace more than Ukrainians, whose towns and villages are being razed, whose children are being abducted, whose families are being burned alive in their own homes by Russian drones and missiles.

The Russians don't expect to see their 28-point Ukraine surrender plan accepted. They expect the world to see that Trump is their slave and the Americans haven't got a clue what's going on.
