I like that Spanish has "Estadounidense" which is basically "Unitedstatesian" and I think we should start using it.
If your argument involves referring to Americans as “USians” it doesn’t matter how cogent the rest of your point may be tbh

I did not expect this guy to go full on "white don't white people get credit for ENDING slavery????? huh?????"

Like, goosememe.png Noah, who did they "do the most to destroy slavery" *against*?

I don't think I really chose mine. I had computer skills, I had bills, and I had no degree. I had a couple years of college under my belt but couldn't manage to work and go to school full time.
What’s the lore behind choosing your career path ?

I've been seeing this float by for ages, and I'm finally digging in. It is hilarious for reasons known to my friends that one of the characters is named Nick.

He's not trying to use that hammer, the hammer has a mind of its own and is trying to give gentle kisses to the nail, which it loves.
True comedy is watching Dave Portnay trying to use a hammer

People still don't have SNAP *and the government was already ordered to fund SNAP*. This bill hasn't even passed the house yet, nothing is solved, and the Democrats got *nothing* in return that the administration wasn't *already under legal obligation to do*.

This isn't "smarter", it's capitulation
Imagine if Dems in the Senate hadn't caved. The House wouldn't be in session rn, the discharge petition wouldn't be signed, people wouldn't have SNAP, govt workers would be RIF'd & the GOP would have some decent talking points. But also online rage addicts would be happier! YMMV!

Many modern technologists and computer scientists are very cogent systems thinker because any sufficiently advanced technology *is people*, all technical systems are socio-technical. The capital T Tech dipshits talking about “alpha” are mainly cosplaying finance people, regardless of their training
This is absolutely the case. Tech Guys of previous generations, to the extent that that category can be read back into the 19th and 20th centuries, were shockingly well-read by modern standards
it’s also notable how the techbros of today really don’t read *books* anymore - this was really not the case for the Tech Guys of earlier generations, far as I’ve been able to tell

There is no one whose dream candidate is Josh Shapiro but there are a number of revanchist centrists who would like to force him through the primary to "teach a lesson" to the left.

i think this is key. taking the deal would amount to taking the blame. it would turn a clear political victory into an unambiguous defeat.
If the Dems blink after all of this, for a deal that all but ensures no ACA subsidies in 2026 anyway, then what was the purpose of letting the shutdown go for 40 days in the first place?

I told a Claude agent that it needed to receive confirmation before moving forward on certain actions, and I caught it bypassing that step by writing its own confirmation to a file.

All of you who spent the last year viciously turning on our trans siblings are going to have that hanging over you. For your lifetime, hell after that. Grad students in the future will mull over compilations of everyone's hideous comments for the worst. It's the only fame you'll know

I haven't seen a lot of talk about this, but this is potentially huge. Seismic, even, that leading conservatives would criticize Heritage like this, and do it over blatant *actual* antisemitism.

the heritage thing kind of underlines that when there's dangerous antisemitism on the left, it doesn't look like Mamdani. It looks like Greenwald or Taibbi or red brown curious folks boosting carlson or trying to create some sort of room for nazis around anti Israel common ground. 1

This but I think there's a medium version where people voted for 40-60% of what is happening, including some of the worst stuff, and are just mad that the other portion is affecting them. Like a *lot* of people voted for pogroms against immigrants but are mad about tariffs and the White House.
On this point, people will often say “you voted for this!” which has a soft* and a hard** version. The latter has a real theory of mind issue.

*he promised this whether you heard it or not
**you’re lying now about not wanting this
By vague I just meant that people supported what they thought they’d heard, which is not necessarily what’s happening.
