Simply amazing that the Supreme Court declared an end to legal race discrimination in the affirmative action case two years ago and now allows overt racism in both immigration arrests and redistricting.

Using race to help minorities? Bad. Using it to discriminate against them? Very, very good.

Do yall remember this?

In 2008, Barack and Michelle Obama gave each other a fist bump on the campaign trail.

Do you remember the controversy?

(Why would there be controversy? everyone gives fist bumps!!)

FOX News referred to it as a "terrorist fist bump."

SCOTUS has granted a stay in Trump v. Orr, the trans passport case, meaning that the government will be able to once again deny gender marker changes to trans passport applicants.

This is a terrible decision with horrifying consequences for trans folks.

Five score and five years ago, the entire Black population of a Central Florida town disappeared virtually overnight.

Forreal.

Black people were one-third of the population there. For scale, that would be like the entire Black population of Lousiana being gone tomorrow.

What happened? 🤔

When will we see that same energy for the 320k+ Black women who were pushed out of the labor market?

The GOP's education playbook.

Step 1: Make public schooling as shitty and stressful as possible for kids and parents and teachers.

Step 2: Sell private schooling as the antidote to the stress and shittiness.

Step 3: Funnel public education money into private hands.

A lesson for faculty in states with Republican-controlled legislatures: your universities won't necessarily succeed in challenging state interference, if they're even willing to try.
I just got word that the faculty senate of my university is now dissolved and no longer exists, in compliance with the new Texas law. Yikes! I thought my university would somehow find a loophole, or an exemption, but it's official. It's a sad day for shared governance and checks and balances.

This sucks on so-many levels, but I think it’s worth noting that if successful this so-called renewal will be hopelessly dull and uninspiring. The vibrant, messy, fullness of history is where a new-generation carves out future possibilities.
