Shabana Mahmood's Indefinite Leave To Remain Culture War

3 years - if you're earning £125k+

15 years - if you're e.g. a nurse, or a teacher

Labour's two tier system which rewards high earners and insults those who work just as hard but don't earn as much - really sad to see Labour fall

We just stopped Nigel Farage’s plan to drag Britain out of the ECHR and tear up people’s rights. Farage wanted to scrap Churchill’s legacy and bring us closer to Trump's America.

You can simply block and ignore every single mainstream journalist and pundit and media org that can't bother describing the diarrhea plane, or sanewash it.

If they normalize *that* why on earth would you expect anything else they say to not be absolute fucking garbage.

This is just the plastic straw hysteria all over again, and it's ableism at its finest: Blame disabled people instead of the corporations that are actually wrecking our environment, that way to poor widdle CEOs won't have to deal with people telling them to fucking STOP KILLING THE PLANET.
As somebody with asthma who uses inhalers - SHUT THE FUCK UP. THIS ARTICLE IS SHAMING PEOPLE WITH A CHRONIC CONDITION.

I'd actually forgotten how extraordinary it is that when I won the leadership - I wasn't interviewed as it was too close to our party conference interviewed.

And then refused a second time!

Part of the antidote to all of this is creating our own media platforms.

Hey @boldpolitics.bsky.social 👋🏼
BBC accused of 'extraordinary' anti-Green bias after party say the Laura Kuenssberg Show scrapped a promised interview with @zackpolanski.bsky.social on Sunday.

Green sources say the show also refused to interview Polanski after he was elected as leader last month

Starmer says past governments have been "squeamish" talking about immigration. Bullshit.

Starmer isn't bravely breaking a taboo. He's blaming vulnerable people & deflecting attention from the super rich who hoard power & wealth.

I hope there will come a day soon where it dawns on someone in Starmer’s team that their strategy of communicating “Nigel Farage is right about everything but please vote for us instead” is fuelling these disastrous figures rather than mitigating them, but today is not that day
Brutal new MRP poll out today showing Reform at 311 and Labour support collapsing.

Worth reading steaming @financialtimes.com column on Starmer by @robertshrimsley.bsky.social

If we continue to orient our economies and politics around the idea that rich people are especially awesome and deserve to get everything that they want, just because they’re rich, then things are only ever going to get more directly Third Reich. That is the core problem here.

What Labour should be doing is creating a new narrative about immigration - about welcoming people who make a contribution but reducing the numbers who don't.

Pretending to be super tough pisses off liberals and won't be believed by Reform voters.

Germany, Netherlands, Brazil and Japan all have civil nuclear power and the ability to enrich uranium. None have nuclear weapons.

Disappointed to find Chat GPT is just all the men you date in your 30s

Fascinated to watch other men experience gaslighting like naive baby deer.
I think it's possible that Chat GPT extrapolated the entire thing from the file name and not the content of the file itself. Which makes me suspect that it was not able to read the file, but it would not tell me that, so it just made stuff up. But I'm not sure.

They're never going to get diehard Tory/Reform voters to switch to Labour by being 'Reform Lite', so unless they start being 'more Labour' they'll lose badly at the next GE.

Lose even worse than Corbyn did against Johnson.

You’re telling me that right wing voters that Labour was trying to appeal to voted for a right wing party anyway and left wing voters decided not to vote for Labour because they’re too right wing now? Who could have possibly predicted this.

The current approach to reporting on trans people (and nuanced culture war topics) is failing already vulnerable folks by creating inequalities for the sake of 'balance'. Here's why, and here's why current approaches to journalism don't always work in the age of virality.

Starmer says he is ‘really pleased’ supreme court has given ‘much-needed clarity’ on definition of ‘woman’ in equalities law – UK politics live
Prime minister says he thinks court’s decision has given a ‘much clearer position for those drawing up guidance’ Keir Starmer has been under pressure for days to comment on the supreme court ruling, particularly from the rightwing papers. Yesterday the Daily Mail even splashed on a story saying he “must break his silence”. His opponents want to embarrass him over the issue because of his past comments supporting more rights for trans people, including one interview when he said it was “not right” to say only women have a cervix. This morning, in interviews during a school visit in Bath, Starmer said he was “really pleased” the supreme court had clarified the law on the definition of a woman. He told the BBC: I welcome the decision of the supreme court, which has given us clarity, much-needed clarity, and I think for those that are now drawing up guidance, it’s a much clearer position. So I’m really pleased that the court has now clarified the position. I think the supreme court has answered that question. A woman is an adult female, and the court has made that absolutely clear. I actually welcome the judgment because I think it gives real clarity. It allows those that have got to draw up guidance to be really clear about what that guidance should say. That should be on the basis of biological sex. That would apply right across the board to all single sex provision. I know that many businesses, large and small, will ensure that they have appropriate provision in place. For example, many businesses have moved towards unisex provision or separate cubicles that can be used by anyone. Continue reading...
