The “growth plan” for Brexit was that it would “unleash” UK from the “shackles” of EU.

And therein is the clue why there has been no growth.

The plan was no more substantial than vivid words deployed in some newspaper column or political speech.

Flimsy boosterish rhetoric, and nothing more.

There are around 10k private school kids in Edinburgh.

51 have moved to state schools in January.

As I've repeatedly said the effects of VAT on fees are going to be minimal.

Contrast media treatment of trade federations or business organisations with workers' unions: The former is afforded gravitas, data/anecdotes taken at face value, leadership's harmony with members never questioned, while unions are a-priori suspicious, byzantine and bending facts to suit agenda. 1/2

"Yoav Gallant ... has admitted in private that the IDF no longer has a military purpose in Gaza."

As I've mentioned a few times now, in that context, I don't see how the law of proportionality can apply to the kinds of strikes Israel is conducting now, if it ever did.

This is not journalism. The next elections are more than four years away. The Times‘ relentless anti- Labour campaign is tiring and doesn’t help anybody in Britain.

Both birds are great improvisers – the John Coltrane and Wynton Marsalis of the bird world.

Dusk is a brilliant time to listen out for blackbirds. They’ll carry on for ages, singing their hearts out from the top of a tree. With any luck you’ll hear several giving it large at the same time.
