I don’t understand how this is even possible. Like there was not $77 billion worth of concept there. A tenth of that amount should have seen it through to completion with an extremely high level of polish.

Strongly suspect doctrine is an afterthought here. The man's actions put me in mind of an Evangelical Calvinist. Suspect he only attracted to Catholicism because that church it's culturally more established and has a far better aesthetic
