Different priorities. Different values.

Alberta’s New Democrats remain focused on affordability, health care, and public education — the things that matter most to YOU.

Heartbreakingly, despite our best efforts, today the Government of Alberta was able to bring an end to the injunction against Bill 26 on the basis of its use of the notwithstanding clause.

This is a cruel and dangerous move by a government that will harm vulnerable young people.

the only reason I've never used GenAI is because if I did i'd feel like a sick artistic fraud. filthy, like I'd sold my mother's wedding ring for drugs, or cheated on my wife with her sister or kicked a baby into a river. that's the only reason. well that and everything it makes looks shit.

It is now a question of when, not if, someone tries to "check".

We don't need this. No one asked for this. Nothing about this stops milk from being $6.15 for a gallon.

Srsly tho we had a great interview with him and it's nice that there's at least *some* resistance in the political sphere to the rabid transphobia that's consumed UK discourse.

*** As long as this post is pinned to the top of our profile, the
ban on healthcare for trans youth IS NOT in effect. ***

Regardless of royal assent, there are still several steps, as well as a new legal challenge, before the restrictions on gender affirming care go into effect.

Bill 9 gets Royal Assent but if the Government thinks the fight is over, they continue to underestimate us. By invoking the notwithstanding clause, the Government is attempting to shield these reprehensible laws from being struck down for unjustifiably violating Charter rights. It will not work.

On Human Rights Day, the UCP used the notwithstanding clause to take away Albertans’ rights.

Now they have gone even further by trying to stop the courts from doing their job.

Last night, the Government of Alberta passed legislation to suspend the charter-protected rights of trans youth. Today, transgender young people in Alberta are waking up with fewer rights than their peers.

Danielle Smith and the UCP are so obsessed with the genitals of children they'll override Canada's constitution as many times as they have to in order to continue indulging in their obsession, to keep thinking about children's genitals and policing children's genitals.

Premier Danielle Smith is a coward, a bully and a hypocrite. Stripping kids of rights and denying them their day in court isn't leadership, it's cowardice.

Sure, she's able to suspend their rights. That doesn't mean she should. My latest 👇🏻👇🏻

Only cowardly politicians override charter rights before the courts can decide
Invoking the notwithstanding clause before a court can make a ruling is cowardly, politically motivated and a dangerous precedent.

A flat $4 fee for transit is frankly inhumane when you consider accessibility needs such as people needing to ride uphill for 2 or 3 stops. There is no way a short jaunt up a hill should cost as much as travel to the opposite end of town...

More smelly things from #ableg yesterday - Minister Emery: "we have made progress on 24 of the 29 Calls to Action that apply to Alberta"

Is he...really saying only 29 of the 94 Calls are "relevant" to Alberta? I...shudder to think which ones he omits.
