It's disappointing that the CA’s e-bike voucher program is getting cut with the funds being diverted to EVs

Data from the Denver program says e-bikes = huge value:
• 40% cheaper/mile than EVs, ~75% cheaper than ICE cars
• Operational emissions ~3% of EVs; ~1% of ICE cars
California Quietly Kills Electric Bike Vouchers, Sending Money to EV Incentives Instead | KQED
The California Air Resources Board gave no public announcement but confirmed that it has redirected the e-bike program’s funds as “a recent outcome of legislative direction.”

Do both! Pedestrians can have a narrowed crosswalk AND an overpass. Cross safely to your hearts content.
We're discussing the possibility of a pedestrian overpass, and why the developers aren't proposing one.

Their response is that overpasses often go unused and encourage drivers at grade level to speed up, so instead they're proposing shortening the crosswalk and lengthening the crossing time.

You have to laugh: the scope of this "micromobility hub project" is re-poured curb cuts at a couple of crosswalks & some painted bicycle logos in the street. Total cost $350k. Wham, bam, thank you ma'am--how's that for "micromobility"?! 😂

Traffic fatalities are FINALLY starting to come down from the usually elevated level they have been in since the pandemic.

NHTSA is reporting traffic deaths ⬇️ 8% in the first half of 2025. They are still far too high.

Belmont updated their GHG emissions inventory and it's a similar story to other cities on the Peninsula. ~50% of emissions are on-street transportation.

More walking and biking help move the needle but progress is so sloooow it can just be maddening. We have the perfect weather almost year-round!

Protected Bike Lanes are coming to the City of San Mateo!

Some highlight from the plan for 19th/Fashion Island. Protected intersections, slip lanes removed, car traffic mitigations (more queueing space/optimizing travel lane direction)

Tough tradeoffs but overall an exciting initial design!
