These are arguments for breaking the law that would be widely recognized as psychotic if offered in any other context. But when we're drivers, we just feel entitled. I *wanna* go fast, so fuck you, fuck safety, fuck society.

I know it’s dumb and not nearly as meaningful as all the genuinely horrifying things he’s done but I stand by the idea that tearing down half the White House so he could build a big gaudy ballroom was the exact moment where everything started unraveling for Trump.

More important than being polarizing is the fact that she's a terrible journalist & an utterly pedestrian thinker with absolutely nothing to recommend her other than a fine-tuned ear for what powerful men want to hear.
David Ellison vowed not to politicize Paramount—yet his first big move at CBS News is a major bet on Bari Weiss, one of the most polarizing figures in media.

Just to start with, the push should be to use whatever means possible to cut off all tax revenue coming out of Philly and the surrounding counties from funding the rest of the state, especially roads and highways, until SEPTA is funded. If you can’t find a legal way to do it, find another one.

I'll just say again:

Everyone can see how the dysfunctional media environment has convinced people that crime is an epidemic, when in real life -- people's "lived experience," if you will -- crime is way, way down.

Now why wouldn't the same dynamic apply to the economy?

It is fucking insane that we had a decade of people complaining about the dangers of cancel culture, and now literally hundreds of thousands of people are being purged from government jobs for ideological reasons, but that is not cancel culture.

I'd go with like "many of the pedophiles who flew with Trump on Jeffrey Epstein's planes are the same people who are also trying to cut health care for Americans. Part of the reason they want us poor is so we can't fight back when they rape our kids."
The craziest thing about this fight between Trump and Elon Musk is that Republicans are trying to take away health care from 16 million people to pay for tax cuts for billionaires.

It’s such a perfect encapsulation of how the right drives American media cycles that slightly-too-long school closures are still considered a huge liability for democrats while murdering hundreds of thousands of people with anti-vaxx propaganda is never mentioned as a downside of Republican rule.

This is why I keep talking about the last ten years as a metastasizing misinformation crisis. Why on EARTH would you think Trump would do anything thoughtfully or strategically? If the media is giving people this impression, it is lying to them
Laid-off IRS employee said he had voted for Trump: "I thought that someone with his business acumen would have come in with a fine-tooth comb and actually found it instead of coming in with a wrecking ball and destroying people’s lives for no reason."

Massive, meaningful changes in governance done as a result of a ctrl-f for the word "transition." No one will ever believe how stupid this shit was.
This is a program for teenagers with serious disabilities who are finishing high school and transitioning to their next steps in life. Trump just axed it, effective immediately, in the middle of the night, with no notice.

I'll probably say this 5 million times in coming years, but:

A political strategy that relies on the public "waking up" and realizing that Trump & Co. are awful -- on their own -- is destined to fail. No matter how bad it gets. None of this is self-executing. People must be told & shown.

Jesse has spent the last six years promoting the notion that large numbers of children are transitioning without assessment — something for which there is no evidence.

He should be treated like anyone else peddling a false and harmful idea.
Jesse Singal's life's work is laundering transphobia into language that that cocktail party set finds palatable. This technique attacks a weakness of liberalism and democracy, and it's being exploited ruthlessly right now.

You have to treat the shtick like the thing it's pretending not to be.
