Used to write about sports and space. Currently communicate about City Connects. Once left VMart off my MVP ballot and had my photo in space. Still an idiot.

Wednesday morning random thoughts: The Carlos Correa trade, improbably, has worked! He's the third or fourth best hitter on the Astros since Aug. 1. By and large, all three trades at the deadline worked.

Yet, the team is still snakebitten and injury prone. New calamities befall them every other day

Happy with how dinner came out tonight. Lemon spaghetti with roasted artichokes. Super simple recipe from NYT Cooking.

Take away all the GOAT candidates: The Wire, Sopranos, Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, and Lost.

What’s the best show outside of that group?

Capt: Picard
XO: Saru
Engineering: Trip
Helm: Data
Constable: Odo
Doc: McCoy
Ensign: Boimler

This was much harder than it should be. How can you pick one engineer?? And one doctor?
Quote with your ideal 7-member crew made up of characters from any Star Trek show. They have to have distinct roles from each other (ie, not Picard and Kirk), but there's wiggle room, as you can see from how I used Spock. (Geordi could be helm or engineer, etc.)
Cpt: Pike (SNW version)
1st/science: Spock (TOS version)
Doc: Bones McCoy
Sec: Worf
Nav: Ro Laren
Eng: O'Brien
Tailor/Spy: Garak

Finished @chuckwendig.bsky.social excellent new book Staircase in the Woods today and saw him at @gibsonsbookstore.bsky.social tonight. He was awesome. The book was scary, surprising and moving. It has the most vivid, most disgusting descriptions ever committed to the page (complimentary)

Two things are true: the Astros office is in a slump. Top to bottom, basically. No extra base hits, no hits with RISP. No runs.

Kyle Tucker, meanwhile, just homered in four straight games and continues to be one of the best offensive threats in the game.

I've gotten a lot of new followers recently - hello, thank you, and I do intend to do some follow backs once I can breathe - and I thought it might be a great opportunity to spread awareness about Matt's GoFundMe, linked here. Matt lost his home in the Altadena fire. Let's help him get back to work.

The thing is, with Tucker and without Bregman, this team probably wins 87-88 games?

All the articles were talking about how the team didn't have a clear direction in the front office weeks ago. Does this trade change that? Does signing Bregman back change it?
December 13, 2024 at 8:11 PM
Sigh. Ok. So are we preparing for Bregman not to sign, Crane to be like "We tried." And then next year is Paredes at first, Jorge Polanco at third, Cam Smith on the big league team by August, and 85 wins for the Astros? Good for third place in the West?
