The National Guard, due to the vagaries of orders and buckets of money, has a number of personnel (technicians) who wear uniforms, go to work, yet don’t get paid due to the shutdown.
It is absolutely heartbreaking to see a 20 year old Security Forces airman who guards the gate not get paid.

It is an indictment of our society that Dr Evil’s dollar amount is only one one-thousandth of this absolutely horrific pay package

Senate Democratic Minority Leader Schumer’s decision not to endorse Zohran Mamdani in the NYC mayoral race “was driven in large part…by his self-conception as a guardian of Israel, something he considers a core part of his personal and political identity.”

Honestly kind of shocking how we have repeated images of China’s alleged 6th vehicles, yet there have been no sighting of NGAD demonstrators or NGAD itself!

Last week’s horrors were donations to pay the military, venezuela strikes, and east wing demolition
This week is “thought experiments” about a post liberal yet somehow American (??) military, 33 year old doge employees leading ONR, and puff piece interviews with techno fascists, plus all the above

If the author reviewed the oath he took when he commissioned, and that he likely retook upon each promotion, he would see a powerful riposte to his entire argument.
Hard to imagine a more sinister & dangerous argument, couched in euphemism & high-minded language. "This essay does not argue liberalism will collapse, only that [US] military officers should be intellectually (and spiritually) prepared for alternatives." warontherocks.com/2025/10/the-...

you can dress it up all kinds of ways but the argument basically boils down to this guy putting his commitment to being a soldier over his commitment to the values of the constitution
it's a fundamentally morally vacuous position

Yeah dude this is INSANE.
To quote one officer, “we’re here to defend democracy, not practice it”
That means we fundamentally defend the liberal experiment and resist alternatives. That’s the whole point!!!!!!!!!!

Eliminating the Guard / Reserve also won’t solve the problem of Ivy Leaguers doing 5 years on active then running for office solely on their school / military credentials
The real antidote to it all is having a public that realizes military service on its own is no great accomplishment

A Guard/Reserve construct is far more American than some big standing army, imo
