something very important for Dems to realize is that the tech overlords are not people you can win back by promising a lighter touch and saying a few nice things

they’ve gotten a taste of mask-off fascism and they are not going back, they don’t want to play nice with the peons anymore
There’s a funny Politico story showing that the latest polling on AI shows 80-20 in favor of heavy regulations, an absolute slam dunk platform, but Dems are worried about not winning back mask-off tech CEO donors

This is staggeringly stupid and unprofessional.

This is why you don't fucking hire trolls and clout chasers for fucking high level positions.

Harmeet is manifestly unfit for her fucking job, which I suppose puts her in good company, nobody running shit at the DOJ is fit for their god damn job.
This is not how a normal Justice Department talks about an ongoing investigation—or about putative targets and their uncharged conduct.

“You are not entitled to a response from us, or anyone, ever,” is what a US Education Department spokesperson wrote to one of our reporters, @megomatz.bsky.social, after she repeatedly tried to get comment from the department and its officials. My column on the condemnation of good journalism.
Our Reporters Reached Out for Comment. They Were Accused of Stalking and Intimidation.
Our journalists reach out to people they’re writing about to ensure fairness. But in this environment, they’ve found their efforts to do so are more likely to be vilified than appreciated.

Exhibit A in the case of "why Newsom can never be elected president"
By the way, Gavin Newsom is apparently raising money to fight AGAINST the billionaire tax. So thoughtful of him to come to their aid at this particular time in history,

it’s crazy how obvious it is that donald trump has been actively part of the epstein coverup for half a decade now and he’s just still the president
Julie K. Brown is a reporter for the Miami Herald who did groundbreaking work on Epstein beginning in 2018, including groundbreaking work on the disgusting coverup by Alex Acosta.

Her travel itinerary was released with some of the Epstein files. It appears the DOJ was monitoring her in 2019.

the reason they don't want to talk about it is because when some unmasked white man asks you why you're still wearing one, there is never going to be a constructive outcome to that conversation ever

I get that he was doing the centrist "I'm not like THOSE libs" but ffs #political
Disappointed to see Jon Stewart & co joke about masking in public. I do it for my medically fragile daughter (Batten Disease). People not masking properly led to her getting pneumonia, which led to her being on life support, which led to me getting price quotes on her cremation just in case.

A smaller section of the lecture I've been re-working on and adding is biomimicry, the use of natural engineering to solve our own problems in tech, cause nature got millions of years on us. A recent example I learned was the knobs in a peregrine's nose to break

Ask yourself: If Donald Trump was a Russian asset, what would he be doing differently?

If your answer is “nothing,” then ask yourself this:

If the US President is a Russian asset, what should *I* be doing differently?
Trump: "Russia wants to see Ukraine succeed. It sounds a little strange but President Putin was very generous in his feeling toward Ukraine succeeding, including supplying energy, electricity and other things at very low prices."

So if you remove Trump’s central premise in negotiations that Putin “wants peace,” and substitute that for the premise that he really wants conquest and subjugation, how is our current strategy of negotiated appeasement useful in getting this resolved?

a lot of the worst effects of AI have been kind of mundane but the AI girlfriend stuff feels right out of a cyberpunk dystopia
"And I never say no"

We need to have a serious talk about the way "AI companion" apps not only prey on the vulnerable, but are priming their users to ignore consent and to conflate love with control.

We need AI regulations across so many sectors, but this area is particularly horrifying.

You might ask yourself, as I did, if this piece will prove to be a pretentiously justified rejection of empathy and a denial of the trauma of rape.

The answer is yes.

Fantastic and accessible discussion of the potential ban on TP-Link from @zackwhittaker.com

I'll add one consideration: China would eliminate demand for ALL its tech products to everyone OVERNIGHT if it weaponized access to any smart devices like routers 1/2

Banning TP-Link won't save America from its own terrible cybersecurity
TP-Link routers face a ban in the U.S. over the company's alleged links to China, but shoddy cybersecurity is the real insider threat to the United States.

I always ask what is your alternative American made router and guess what?

There are none. All of them are made in China or shipped from China & assembled in Vietnam.

Go ahead ask me how I know.
And of course there's no actual evidence of that, just xenophobic speculation.

Our government leaks like a sieve. If there was direct evidence, at least some details would be in the public domain by now. That we've been talking about this for years with no details speaks volumes. 3/3

So endlessly tired of this era.

This is about people who are being held pretrial, without a conviction, and yet are blocked from accessing ballots… until Colorado required polling places in jails.
Sheriffs nationwide have enormous control over jail voting access, with many restricting mail and voter guides, making it nearly impossible for incarcerated people to vote. A law in Colorado removed that discretion—and turnout has soared.
Jail Voting Soars in Colorado After State Mandates Polling Places in County Lockups
Local officials had claimed they were already giving detained people ballot access, but the first-in-the-nation mandate forced their hands and increased turnout across the state.
