The biggest rail expansion project in the Chicago area for 30 years is in Indiana
Went to see some of the completed (but not open) Monon Corridor stations. Big video coming right after these finally open sometime in Q1 of 2026!

Chicagoans took more than 430 million bus rides in 1988! Then the bottom fell out after 1990 (due in part to drastic service cuts precipitated by a fiscal crisis - sound familiar??).

Sen. Villivalam discusses:
-Why it would be foolish *not* to seek $1.5B for transit
-Why dismissing the issue as a simply a Chicago problem is a lie
-Whether there will be a summer legislative session.

We're blessed to have such an extensive system of legacy infrastructure. Regional Rail connects Chicagoland by changing the way we use what we already have: we're 95% of the way there. No doubt that the last 5% would require a substantial investment, but transforming the region is worth every penny.
Cleaned this up a bit to highlight how the core 2034sight #BuildTheTunnel investments unlock the entire network:
🟢 Extant station, no/minimal changes
🟣 Extant station, significant modifications
🟠 Planned/under construction
🔴 New station, core plan
🔵 New station, secondary
🟡 New station, tertiary

Imagine the massive Damen Silos being preserved and the surrounding land being used as music festival grounds.

It’s an idea that a pair of groups is floating even as the city moves closer to issuing demolition permits for the century-old structures. buff.ly/gKytNKf
Damen Silos should be a concert venue, groups say
Preservationists and a community organization say a public park and musical festival site is an idea worth pursuing, but demolition of the structures appears imminent.

This is a map of recorded combined sewer overflow (CSO) events from Wednesday's record-breaking rainfall. The fact that there was only a single CSO event is pretty remarkable when some areas were seeing well over 2" of rain.

It’d be great to boost development and densities in these areas but so many of them are far from the ‘L’ network. If only there were some easy way to provide fast and frequent rail transit to these parts of the city, perhaps by constructing some sort of underground conduit to tie them together

Happy Pulaski Day, Chicago!
Every year on the fake holiday known as Pulaski Day I remind you of Chicago’s best honorary street sign “Casimir Pulaski Way” on Pulaski Rd, a street so nice they named it twice. Pulaski used to be called Crawford but was originally known as 40th Ave. Confused yet? You should be.
