1️⃣ Every ATProto user has a public key.
2️⃣ Every ATProto user has a domain name, which means it can have MX records to route email.
Someone (@bsky.app) could build an ATProto-aware client with smarts to encrypt/sign emails sent to users with ATProto enabled email.💡🔐📧

The one thing SMTP has going for it is network effect (a very large N²) Which means we are going to have it for decades.
The question is what do we do about this?
I wonder if it will take a product with a large user base (like WhatsApp size) to build a new client that reimagines the entire UX?

everything has problems but I think as far as browser specifications go webauthn is pretty unique in how many of its problems were pointed out during its development and actively ignored by the editors.
