I don’t understand people who say that they won’t vote when elections happen out of some cynicism that they see politics as “turmoil” or those who have such apathy that they would rather go to the pub to watch soccer. As if people have become too spoiled with their freedom. A gift for fascism.

Important thread on precedents on National Guard use over state objections, from @lindsaypcohn.bsky.social, and nobody knows it better.
Gov will definitely appeal and will prbly rely on the 1827 SCOTUS ruling in Martin v Mott, that discretion to determine whether an insurrection or failure to enforce federal law is happening rests w the prez alone and is not reviewable.

A PR person for ABC asked me to stop asking about Pete Hegseth's speech during this episode about the death of Vanessa Guillén.

They emailed me today and asked I not include the interruption in the final show.

I will not. So tune in to listen to a lecture from a PR person about Guillén's legacy.

How can you negotiate with Republicans in Congress to fund the government when as soon as you reach an agreement you know that Trump’s OMB director will just withhold the funds?

Reporter: Do you think it would have been fitting to lower the flags for Melissa Hortman who was killed as well?

Trump: Uh, I’m not familiar, who?

I know loads of people who said exactly that. Others you said it was no big deal because he was no saint. I guess Charlie Kirk was though because he is being deified right now.
Fox News' Marc Thiessen, without a hint of irony: "Imagine if – we didn’t see this on the right, but imagine if after the George Floyd killing, people had gone on in saying he was a POS and that I’m glad he's dead... do you think anybody would have employed them ever again?!"

Q: Do you think it would've been fitting to lower the flags to half staff when Melissa Hortman, the Minnesota House Speaker, was gunned down by an assassin?

TRUMP: I'm not familiar. The who?

One reason Democratic members of Congress are still going on about "bipartisanship" and "distractions" is because they and their staff members are still spending most of their time on X. The online people who would normally talk sense into them are all here on Bluesky. 🧵

The fact that Monday’s White House meeting wasn’t a total disaster doesn’t make it a success. No solid commitments came out of it. And just yesterday, Trump once again blamed Ukraine for the war.

Until Trump actually *does* something, anything he *says* is completely unreliable.

We laughed at the Russians using motorcycles in assaults. But because the Ukrainians lack the manpower to guard the entire frontline, the Russians found a weak point, and slipped through. And thanks to the bikes, they were fast in doing so.

Medicaid covers...

-40% of births nationwide
-50% of kids with special needs
-72 million people in total

Remember this as Republicans gut the program to finance tax cuts that will overwhelmingly go to the richest 1% of Americans.

Just some creepy armed Mad Max guys trying to gain entry to Dodgers Stadium.

ICE says it wasn’t them. DHS says they were Border Patrol. But honestly who the hell knows? They’ve given permission for any psycho to put on a ski mask, point a gun, grab people & throw them into an unmarked vehicle.

And there it is. The Minnesota assassin who shot Democratic lawmakers “voted for Donald Trump and was a strong Trump supporter,” according to his best friend.

I'm sorry but the largest protest of my lifetime is not the 7th or 8th biggest news story in the country behind "what does Gen Z want from Instagram?" This shit is humiliating. Rearrange your layout to meet this moment. Omitting the thing happening in every American city is malpractice.

Millions of Americans march against authoritarianism in hundreds of cities and towns across the country--and the @nytimes.com does not consider it front page news.

Just an incredible abdication of responsibility in his historically important moment!

Especially if you're on the fence about it, protest today. Fascism is isolating and lonely. Its very goal is to make you feel like you're the only person unwilling to accept a cult of personality. On days like today you fully realize there are more of us than there are them. You will feel better.

Some contractors never deployed before—or are ex-cops. None are confirmed as trained for the guns they were given.

They saw the IDF targeting Palestinians.

I will not stop fighting to demand accountability.
