The fight for our democracy is not coming. It is here.

When I say that we have months, not a year, to save democracy, I'm talking about this coordinated, relentless legal assault on political dissent.

1/ Let me explain a few elements of Trump's plan: www.nytimes.com/2025/03/19/u...
With Orders, Investigations and Innuendo, Trump and G.O.P. Aim to Cripple the Left
The president and his allies in Congress are targeting the financial, digital and legal machinery that powers the Democratic Party and much of the progressive political world.

ICE policy says a person can be deemed a gang member if any ICE officer notes two "Gang Membership Identification Criteria." In Mr. Reyes Barrios' case, that appears to have been:

1) A tattoo modeled off the Real Madrid logo
2) A picture from social media of him throwing the horns.

That was it!

UNREAL. ICE implies in a sworn declaration that MOST of the Venezuelans sentenced to hard labor in a brutal Central American prison without charge or trial or so much as a cursory hearing had never been convicted or even charged with ANY CRIME whatsoever, not even a trivial one, anywhere, ever!

Many of these people have the gal to be paying themselves as GS15 employees, the top of the scale, as they coldly ruin the lives of people who make $40k or $50k per year and whose kids may not now eat.
JD Vance said DOGEbro Marko Elez shouldn't have his life "ruin[ed]" b/c of racist tweets.

But "Elez's life had not been 'ruined,'" as @jvl.bsky.social notes. He just lost a govt job he'd briefly had.

And if losing a govt job is a life-ruining event, just think how many lives DOGE/Musk have ruined.

Trump is carrying out the dangerous and illegal marching order laid out in his Project 2025 playbook to bypass congressional authority and rip the Department of Education apart, piece by piece.

This continued assault on our democracy is pushing our systems beyond the breaking point.
Breaking News: The Education Department announced that it was firing more than 1,300 workers, effectively gutting the agency. The layoffs mean that the department will now have a work force of about half the size it did when President Trump took office.
