It's weird how after every good thing/gain (even if we don't call it a victory) people circle up to insist we shouldn't celebrate. Celebrating is not how people give up, in my experience; believing we can't win, never win, and have no power is (with a side of joylessness).
I don't keep doomers in my feed but since apparently some folks do: "celebrate each and every win, loudly" is Organizing 101

The thing I appreciated most about the Harry Potter books was Umbridge.
Pointing out how people ostensibly on your side will be unwilling to see danger where it is and find it where it isn't and do great harm in their attempts to do what they believe is good.

Roald Dahl was a very flawed person who had some terrible beliefs but one good thing he did do was share the story of his daughter's death in the hopes that no other family would have to go through the same thing ever again, and it sucks that we've gone backwards on this.

When I teach Vietnam, I explain that opposition to the war really grew in fits and starts. Some big rallies and visible protests, but also a steady stream of celebrities and ordinary folks breaking with their priors and taking a new stand.

FWIW, I think Hakeem Jeffries is fair game for criticism on many fronts. But as someone Bluesky liberals regularly think is him, I do sometimes wonder whether aspects of his background help explain the intensity and tone of that frustration.

Even when they show signs of weakness or forced regret, we must not give an inch. Authoritarian governments still respond to public opinion, which is why sustained pressure matters. We have to keep making clear that these thuggish actions are unconscionable and will not be tolerated. Don’t let up.
