Ok. I'm reorganizing. This is an account I mostly use to follow political stuff and news. I will likely be sharing posts like that from others here.

My more personal account is at @cshlan.dawdling.net.ap.brid.gy but I post a lot of political stuff there, too, because it's a big interest of mine.

Scrolling through the photos of Pam Bondi's "Minnesota rioters," it's just hero after hero. Every photo includes a cowardly DHS agent with their back to the camera.

Bondi thinks she's going to win the propaganda war with this shit, but it's never been more clear that they're losing.

I have a feeling the Minnesota protester photos released by DHS are going to be used in exactly the same way. Heroes, all.
In an Irish context this was called ‘felon setting’; a favourite tactic of Dublin Castle to punish via RIC/DMP visits to employers & landlords. But after #EasterRising Irish Times eagerly leaped to print detailed lists leaked to them, not realising how this would soon be a roll of honour #spéirgorm

EXCLSUVIE: The Trump administration has secretly rewritten nuclear safety rules and shared them with the companies they're meant to regulate, without making the new rules publicly available.

We've obtained a copy of the new rules and here's what we found.

The Trump administration has secretly rewritten nuclear safety rules
The rewrite was done to speed up the construction of a new generation of nuclear reactors. Critics warn it could compromise safety and public trust.

Reupping the dedicated website MN DOC made to debunk the false claims Trump's people keep making about non-cooperation. The latest update includes VIDEO proof that MN officials transferred custody of people ICE claims to have snatched.

Every state should have a similar site.

One thing I see liberal outlets giving ground on that I feel the need to correct: it’s impossible to “dox” a paid public official
By simply reporting their name, institutional role, and political affiliations

Being a violence researcher means that basically everything I post here is some variant on:

“The thing they said would make you safe is actually ineffective and/or dangerous.”

“The thing they said is dangerous is actually a sign of the kind of big changes we need for a safer society for everyone.”

Here's a regular white guy (literally "Chad") not a protester. because, "It seemed pointless, or just a way for people to expiate their sense of guilt." Chad witnessed something shattering. And, that all changed in a moment.

Excellent article!

Perry: Abolish ICE? How about DHS altogether.

kinda feel like more people should know that illegally entering the US, under what the law actually says, is supposed to carry about the same penalties as a speeding ticket

Here @joshuakeating.bsky.social points out that, as of January 14, 2026, we've entered the longest period since July 16, 1945, without a full-scale nuclear test explosion (exceeding the time between the 1998 Pakistani test and North Korea's first test in 2006) www.vox.com/future-perfe...
The world just passed a surprisingly positive milestone on nuclear weapons
It’s been more than eight years since the last nuclear explosion. How long will the pause last?

It's weird how after every good thing/gain (even if we don't call it a victory) people circle up to insist we shouldn't celebrate. Celebrating is not how people give up, in my experience; believing we can't win, never win, and have no power is (with a side of joylessness).
I don't keep doomers in my feed but since apparently some folks do: "celebrate each and every win, loudly" is Organizing 101

lot of performative cynicism

listen, places where all institutions have failed, they can just disappear you forever. you're arrested, the court always rules you guilty, you have no rights, the end

by contrast, tons of protesters, immigrants, etc. winning court fights in u.s.

a couple of key points here,
-I think it's true that there are limits to how sweeping reforms can be in the context of a budget showdown (as opposed to purpose-built legislation during a normal lession)
-requiring a warrant *for an arrest* is pretty significant! it means no more snatching
Dems coalescing around 5 restrictions on ICE, I'm told:

DHS required to cooperate with state probes (big)
CBP stays at border
warrants for arrests
IDs, bodycams
ICE out of churches, schools

"That package unites a lot of Dems," Sen Chris Murphy tells me on the pod:

The thing I appreciated most about the Harry Potter books was Umbridge.

Pointing out how people ostensibly on your side will be unwilling to see danger where it is and find it where it isn't and do great harm in their attempts to do what they believe is good.

Sadly Rowling has become Umbridge.

Roald Dahl was a very flawed person who had some terrible beliefs but one good thing he did do was share the story of his daughter's death in the hopes that no other family would have to go through the same thing ever again, and it sucks that we've gone backwards on this.
