In the name of Charlie Kirk, I denounce my parents for giving me an unpatriotic bed time, and my teachers for giving me a hate speech amount of homework! Take them away ICE!

Feel like we're maybe entering into the guillotining statues era of this. Maybe we're not there yet, but feels like we'll get there before spring.

It's very weird to me that at least one of Thomas or Alito hasn't resigned yet. Are they waiting for next summer in a crazed attempt to try to juice midterm turnout among conservatives by putting the bench on the ballout? Are they just committed to never letting go of power now that they have it?

This meets the "actual malice" standard because it's like, actual, and they're very malicious, just so malicious
"Put bluntly, Defendants baselessly hate President Trump in a deranged way."

guys is it good when your lawyers write like 5 year olds writing a legal brief

My fear is the Times takes this as a badge of honor that they're playing things straight and still speaking truth to power, instead of what it is: proof that even their cowardly, bordering on collaborative approach, will not save them
what exactly is MAGA grandpa mad about now

This week ended with political tragedy
I’m declaring an end to “bits”. They’ve brought me nothing but pain.

Evil in the guise of being kind. I'm from this fucking state and can say with some expertise, this is not that surprising at all.
"I wish we could blame this on muslims or migrants, but turns out it was one of us." what a wild thing to say
September 13, 2025 at 12:03 AM
Many people have rightly said about Trump, this is the fucking guy we're destroying the international order over? But we're even further passed that. Of all the stupid violent things our stupid violent populace does, this is the one that tears us apart?

Ezra Klein’s mistake is his credulity, his belief that this can be settled with ideas, that he can find the right words to make his opponents understand him and settle down and have a nice debate. But there is no figure on the right who would write a column like this if Rachel Maddow were shot.

Pundits engaged in tut-tutting should take note the right is explicitly calling for *more* violence, at a time we don't even know who did it, why he did it, or before the body is in the ground. It feels like the media wants to remember Kirk by completing his work of completely silencing dissent.
These are calls for mass political violence, against all Democrats. They openly call for the bombing of "Democrat" cities and for the jailing or killing of Democratic politicians. They are from some of the most influential voices in right-wing politics. Will anyone say anything?

The acquiescence to and even celebration of Trump that began by many of America's most prestigious institutions in November last year was incredibly disorienting, but this hagiography of Charlie Kirk is even more so. Trump could at least crush them. I'm sure there's some fear here, but also madness

the bad news is that many american elites are spineless opportunists. that, however, is also the good news

For the plaintiff in the lawsuit against me and my family for $10,000,000,000, this could be an excellent opportunity to rise to the occasion and heed the angel's call for serenity
WSJ edit board spins a fantasy: "for Mr. Trump, while this is a moment of personal sadness, it is also an opportunity for leadership...he can help the country rise above this madness. He can say that this is the moment when the descent into political violence must stop.”
Meanwhile — no, he can’t:
Trump: "For years those on the radical left have compared wonderful Americans like Charlie to Nazis. This kind of rhetoric is directly responsible for the terrorism we're seeing in our country & it must stop right now. My admin will find each and every one of those who contributed to this atrocity"

Can there be different thicknesses of marker? Our experts said maybe, but others aren't so sure. One thing's for certain: questions remain
lol fuck off

Whenever I see the Times employ this framing of like, "Critics say X, he disagrees," I think of the line from Mr. Show: "Since the dawn of time, men have wondered: do mysteries really exist? Some say 'maybe.' Others aren't so sure."
that’s a lot of fancy words to call him a dumb bitch

I like Mamdani, huge breath of fresh air, but I feel like I see people taking victory laps already. I'm quite disillusioned by the history I've seen of people continuing to support politicians once they're in office in the microblogging age, but I hope I'm wrong

one important feature of the twitter model of social media is that its essentially a giant soap opera. or maybe at best a long stendhal-esque 19th century novel. you have a huge cast of colorful characters, who link up, fall out, argue, cause commotion, and expound. you follow them and their lives
I keep telling people that a swath of influential American elites believes that saying something negative about them online, especially arguments they can't easily dismiss, is the worst thing, a national crisis politics must address.

Many don't believe me because it sounds so stupid, but it's true.
This morning we received important answers to the question of "What is Blueskyism?" from Nate Silver and it turns out that the answer is "picking on Nate Silver" and "Being Michael Hobbes."
