I find it really hard to understand how THIS is the inhuman incident and inhuman reaction that shows civilization in decline, unless you accept the notion that some lives have value and others don’t.
The brazen murder of a CEO in Midtown Manhattan—and the cheering reaction to his execution—amounts to a blinking-and-blaring warning signal for a society that has become already too inured to bloodshed, @adriennelaf.bsky.social writes. theatln.tc/ZRcsrreK

One other important note that I’m seeing a lot of news articles get wrong: Democrats will lose control of the Senate on Jan. 3 when the 119th Congress begins, not on Jan. 20. Realistically, their control will end whenever they leave for the holidays at the end of 2024.
Just so folks know, this is the typical nominee timeline:

White House announces nominee.

Senate Judiciary Committee waits 28 days to hold a hearing.

SJC typically waits at least 2 weeks before nominee is first placed on voting agenda.

SJC holds vote over another week.

SJC votes.
Still no nominee to the Delaware-based Third Circuit vacancy, which, given that Biden is from Delaware, is pretty baffling. (Not sure there’s enough time at this point anyway.)

I worry sometimes about not writing enough, that I waste too much time. Then I think about the lines “The limits of art cannot be delivered. There is no artist whose talent is fulfilled.”

Which sentiment was written by a gent named Ptahhotep.
