In a back channeled "offer" to the International Criminal Court, the United States proposed dropping sanctions on ICC officials if the Court

•Dropped charges on Israeli officials and pledged not to indict anymore
•Stopped investigating crimes in Afghanistan
•Amended the ICC treaty

the ICC said: no
Exclusive: ICC shuns US demands to drop Israel war crimes probe and amend treaty
Washington also called for end to Afghanistan investigation and change to Rome Statute in return for lifting sanctions

Quite an interesting thread
I've posted a couple times about authorities, and it sounds like boring dork shit but it actually is extremely important to understand this whole mess

Prior to the Goldwater-Nichols Act becoming law in 1986, command authorities in the US military were a messy smorgasbord of service and other chains
Yes but also no...SOCOM (really JSOC) has been running unilateral ops in CENTCOM and AFRICOM since shortly after 9/11

I'll do a thread on it later

Europeans are waking up this morning to find the new US National Security Strategy (quietly) released. And what it has to say on Europe could not be clearer. On the „stark prospect of civilizations erasure“ for example. 👇

Maybe it is Netanyahu's long-running corruption that has bitterly divided the country, rather than the due process of law.

The war will end when Russia stops fighting. Therefore, pressure has to be put on Russia, so that they stop believing that they will win. Why is that so hard to understand?

Trump is the most openly corrupt president in American history, and that makes it extra difficult to interpret what's happening when he makes seemingly unexplainable decisions. It's a big problem if the European press won't discuss this issue.
Wow. BBC journalists are now not even allowed to report the censored line from my Reith Lecture, that Trump is “the most openly corrupt president in American history.”

You can hear how carefully they’re forced to tiptoe around it. So chilling...

BREAKING: This is huge news, the EU's equivalent of the 🇺🇸Supreme Court's 2015 Obergefell v. Hodges ruling.

🇪🇺Court of Justice just ruled all 🇪🇺countries must recognise same-sex marriages granted in other member states.

This effectively legalises gay marriage across 🇪🇺

So I was talking to Zooey and webcomics came up and I am realizing that I used to devour webcomics as a teen but haven't read them in years.

So bluesky, what are your fav webcomics I should get into? I like fantasy, sci fi, gaming, slice of life, comedy, supernatural, and interesting art.

In toppling Assad, Syrians have overcame a challenge that almost everyone by mid-2024 considered impossible - strongly reminding everyone that if you have a strong will and determination, you can beat even "impossible" challenges.

Farage can now be easily boxed in to a corner where his only ‘defence’ becomes: “Yes I spouted Kremlin propaganda & Putin worship but, unlike Nathan Gill, I didn’t need bribes to do it.”
It is, once again, a question of whether interviewers have the temerity to shut down his whining obfuscations.

The partisan divide has grown, too. The wealthiest 100 tended to give more to Republicans than to Democrats before last year. But giving to the GOP spiked in 2024, with *84%* of donations going to back Republicans or conservative PACs.

This Day in Labor History: November 20, 1536. The conquistador Hernán Cortés buys a bunch of Mexican silver mines and acquires between 100 and 200 Native slaves. This moment is an excellent entry point to discuss the labor history of early Spanish colonization of the Americas.

"Europe is waging economic war against russia and we must declare war on them but the russian economy is doing great"
Is such a contradiction that it's unbelievably ridiculous.

We went to a Parisian museum the other day where the staff could only check tickets but not sell tickets so we had to buy them on our phones outside in the rain (and of course you had to create an account etc etc) and I really thought I was going crazy.
today in We Live In The Future And The Future Is Stupid: went to a pub to inquire about a potential room booking but the staff aren't allowed to process those in person so I am now sitting in the pub, writing them an email to inquire about a potential room booking

I reckon the most interesting subset of discourse here is when presumed [good] factors are actually either actually bad, or there to downplay or dismiss the bad even if the amount of good is way smaller than the bad.

A short thread to explain: on "training for electrification" + "demand response"
I would love it if public discourse on data centers could be just a skosh more sophisticated than "data centers good vs. data centers bad."
