TLDR: Support for deuterostome monophyly comes from sources of systematic error (branch-length, site-rate and site-compositional heterogeneity). When these are explicitly modelled, we cannot distinguish between monophyletic and paraphyletic Deuterostomia. (12/12)

Guys, please talk about Thiago Avila.

He's the Brazilian activist on Freedom Flotilla kidnapped by Israel. He's still detained and has been doing a hunger and water strike since yesterday early morning. There have been reports of unsanitary conditions too.

Please talk about him.

Even plants that don’t have roots have genes to make them, so what is it that these genes are up to?

NSF to ONLY fund research in five areas: artificial intelligence, quantum information science, biotechnology, nuclear energy, and translational science. Can this be happening?

I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately: One of the most valuable features of the modern state is its ability to reduce individual-level cognitive burden in a complex world.

Not having to worry about whether your food or medicine is safe is one big part of that.
It's so depressing to me how quickly people have decided that safety regulations just don't matter. You really don't want botulism, listeria, or salmonella and there are very few companies who will put ethics over profits unless they're forced to. This is what government should be doing.
The reason why older generations burnt the shit out of their meat and boiled the shit out of their vegetables, was your kid died if you didn't.

Medium rare steaks and roasted Brussels sprouts are a side effect of an intact food safety infrastructure

No exagero. Se vienen tiempos oscuros como no espabilemos. Explico algunos puntos críticos. Va hilo. 👇

Si no, no llegarán fondos. 👇

Reposted by Álvaro Muñoz Sánchez (Alva)
