George Perez’s Avengers (1977). Pretty tight roster at that point, huh?

Many, many years ago, animator Adam Brown brought motion to Bill Watterson’s classic Calvin & Hobbes dance strip. We’ll never see an official cartoon, and rightly so, but every time I see this, it just makes me want to pull out my dog-eared collections and re-read the whole lot. Try it. You need it.

Part 2 of my 2025 reading Fantagraphics thread. I started this project hoping it'd get me to try more new-to-me cartoonists; instead it's been mostly me catching up on my favorite artists, then going oh gee now I want to reread some of their older books. Oh, well! Part one:

One of my reading goals for this year is to take a deep dive into my Fantagraphics TBR pile. First up: MACANUDO: WELCOME TO ELSEWHERE, a collection of comic strips by Argentine cartoonist Liniers.

Part 2 of my thread listing the (non-Fantagraphics -- those are in their own thread) comic book trade paperbacks and graphic novels I've read this year! Here's part one:

First comic book collection I finished this year. Tons of superheroes, very little characterization, still great fun.

A panel from Marvel Team-Up #79, with art by John Byrne and Terry Austin, which I find notable because John apparently referenced the art of Frank Thorne (FRANK THORNE!) and decided, "No sir, too many clothes."

One of the saddest things in Big Two comics is that Englehart worked his ass off to use Mantis everywhere, to make her an important and prominent character and to get people to care about her.

Yet people only started caring when other creators changed her into the opposite of Englehart's version.
