I don't think people have factored in the fact that the president is rapidly approaching lame duck status. Members of his party are not going to want to be held accountable for his deeply unpopular choices now that he won't ever be on the ballot again.

This is absurd and not a thing that is ever going to happen. There’s a way to replace elected officials you’re unhappy with; those are called elections. There’s not a single elected official who’s going to call for anyone’s resignation because of a single shitty vote. People, get a grip.

This could be the entire story for a week. But instead, it'll be shutdown surrender.

Hasan (2028)
Fetterman (2028)
Durbin (Retiring)

The factional grifters will hate this, but the Mamdani-Spanberger-Sherrill axis actually suggests the outlines of a broad, emerging Dem coalition organized around both anti-Trump *and* affordability politics, not a party bitterly divided against itself.
These big wins will embolden Dems to take on Trump's lawbreaking and show there's a price for GOP enabling of him. Folks hate to hear this, but normal patterns are asserting themselves: Liberalism isn't dead, Rs are likely to lose in 2026, and Trump is really unpopular, not a magical exception.

VA is an off-off year. Electorate skews educated, informed, and wealthy. Which is exactly the demographic Dems have been gaining. Yes, some of these numbers are shockingly big, but I want to see the comparison with the last VA gov race not the last presidential.

When Mark Warner ran (and won) for governor, he got 45% in Loudon County. 4 years later Tim Kaine won 51% of Loudon. Today it went +29 for Spanberger. Twenty. Nine.

Agree that if Spanberger makes it to +12 (Harris was +7) then Jones could squeeze through.
FWIW, my final guesses re VA results:

Spanberger +12%
Hashmi +10%
Jones +3%
