What it was like to be at @supplydepotmpls.bsky.social yesterday, managing fire response:

Cars pulling into the parking lot constantly, with neighbors bringing food, warm coats, hats, and gloves. (Short 🧵)
You amazing beautiful and incredible humans. Thank you to everyone who showed up, to everyone who donated hats and time and to everyone who donated online. Today you helped us give out 78 tents in the wake of that fire. Fires are indiscriminately devastating, and we keep going because of you ❤️
Omg neighbors you're fucking amazing!!! This was all YOUR donations and volunteering, we still are donation based and mutual aid based with every dollar and item going directly to the people who need it ❤️❤️ thank you!!!

Additional pro-tip:
Unlike with N95s for infection control, you cannot re-use them in rotation or over several days. You wanna throw them away when they get dirty, which will happen fast (same dayish) with smoke and particulates. Plus, they’ll stink. Guarantee it.
Pro tip from someone who used to cover fires all the time: N95s and KN95s (and other masks) will protect against the particulate matter that will otherwise potentially get into your throat, lungs, and bloodstream and make you feel like total shit.

And people have a RIGHT to shelter, to food, to water. To be warm, to be loved, to spend time on silly little things.

No matter who they are, what they've done, or how you feel about them.

They're people. And you should help them, and stick up for them.

This is also a good time of year for coloring books and supplies, people are trying to stay in their tents as much as possible to avoid freezing
Now that coat distro is ramping up, we could really use more of the strong plastic hangers! Please bring them to any of our drop off locations during business hours if you can ❤️

Fuck it. Trans folks need MATERIAL SUPPORT.

@distributeaid.org is launching an HRT Harm Reduction Toolkit that provides 1 year of medical supplies needed to take injection-based HRT. We were planning to go live in January, but I'm not waiting.

We sent out a load of tents, sleeping bags, hand warmers, and other survival supplies. We have a weekly pop up tomorrow and between these we are worried about running out of supplies. If you can help, we have pay links and a wishlist at SupplyDepotMpls.com

There was ANOTHER camp eviction today. Roughly 50 of your Minneapolis neighbors were forced out of their tents in 19° weather. Several of those tents (20?) were frozen to the ground, leaving their occupants unsheltered. This weather is deadly, we lose people to exposure every year because of this.

While the "holiday" this was written for has come and gone, there's lots of solid stuff here for the whole "holiday season"/all year round:
Tomorrow is a (controversial) holiday, and whether you are interested in giving back, helping out, and participating in community care because of political outcomes, rough family relationships, love for neighbors, personal gratitude, anti colonialism, or any reason at all, here's our recommendations
