Frey’s proposed 2026 budget defunds them, but emergency housing vouchers are funded in the 2025 budget; MPHA implemented the operational needs to get vouchers out in Q3 for resident use. It’s now Q4 & sitting in CPED. 100 vouchers could be in use right now: 50 for single residents, 50 for families.
Continues to be striking how, since Frey erected the greenway fence to Lake/Nicollet, the crowd has returned en masse to 2900 block of Blaisdell. Frey bleats “you can’t have encampments by home & businesses“ but that’s exactly where he’s pushed these folks. Meanwhile 50 housing vouchers go unfunded.

NENOOKAASI V. FREY update

The City is trying to get the case thrown out via a motion for summary judgment.
This is the final hurdle: if we win this argument, we go to trial.

It is absolutely soul crushing that this is what happens to our most marginalized neighbors following a tragedy. Nobody should be ok with this.

Encampment prevention is not homelessness response.

Hiding a problem is not solving a problem.

Using casual language to describe homelessness harms our community.

Minneapolis encampments are largely gone. Have homeless people been driven into the shadows?
Mayor Jacob Frey says there’s less homelessness because police have cleared camps. Homeless people say they’re just less visible.

We would love for these numbers to be correct, but...
Jacob Frey thinks there's only 27 people experiencing homelessness in Minneapolis. he's either dense or a lying sack of shit or both.

This is $10,000 of damage directed at a resource center that helps Indigenous women and families. They have so many amazing programs, for low income families or people escaping dv, for substance use disorder or for early childhood family education. They need us to step up for them this time.

Minneapolis encampment numbers have dropped drastically thanks to police harassment, thuggish behavior preventing the same number of homeless people still residing within the city from congregating, doing absolutely nothing to solve problems but creating more PTSD for vulnerable citizens

Fixed it ❤️
Mayor @jacob-frey.bsky.social is making major strides in getting more people into stable housing.

Minneapolis encampment numbers have dropped drastically thanks to record affordable housing investments, dedicated outreach teams, and a public safety-first approach.
Minneapolis mayor says homeless encampment numbers down 'significantly'
Frey told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS there are currently 32 people in homeless encampments compared to nearly 300 in late fall, and the number of shootings and drug overdoses has also dropped.

Punishing our neighbors has hidden the problem, but it has not solved the problem of homelessness. Cruelty does not house people. It makes homelessness less visible, our neighbors less likely to receive services, and thus, less safe.
Hiding homelessness doesn't solve it. We can't celebrate this data as a win in partnership with our unhoused neighbors. Sadly this reflects an uptick in MPD aggression & makes vulnerable people more invisible. We need a humane response—not "out of sight, out of mind".

MPD says there are zero significant homeless encampments left in the city
Police Chief Brian O'Hara says there were 15 homicides at encampments last year, drug use was running rampant, and change had to be made.
