In Dublin specifically, 27% of tenancies are with landlords who have 100+ tenancies. 27%!

The one property landlords are only 21%. Don't give me this "mom and pop fleeing the market" guff. Mom and pop don't own hundreds of properties.

It's only Donegal tweed if it's from the Tír Chonaill region of Ireland. Otherwise it's just sparkling wool

Never, ever trust Sinn Féin. You think there might be some hope of a left alliance, and then Matt Carthy comes out and shits all over it. But then, Sinn Féin are not - and were never - Left.

Was on holiday in Berlin at weekend, struggled to process the fact that literally everyone wears black on night out. Was in cocktail bar on Sunday and literally 100% of people wearing black. Like some kind of SICK CULT

my 'letting cars nip in front of me' policy is

SUV, Audi, BMW or mercs: close any gap and dead stare straight ahead to pretend I didn't see them

any other vehicle: flash lights, hop in there bud
Great initiative. Not just cities either Roads in the countryside are narrow. Every morning on my way to my daughter’s nursery, Im forced to stop or veer into ditches by SUVs that are pristine & seemingly incapable of going slightly off road. It’s hair raising seeing them charge unwaveringly at you.
Cardiff will be the first UK city to introduce a surcharge for oversized SUVs and trucks, "while very large vehicles – those over 3,500kg – will be excluded from residential permits entirely."

I'm getting a sense of a generational divide (as well as an obvious class one) on the Jim Gavin story. Older people I've spoken to seem quite sorry for him but everyone my age and younger seems to see this as a kind of vicarious revenge fantasy for all the bad landlords they've had over the years!

The ballot paper for Ireland’s presidential election is unlawful – and gives an unfair advantage to Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil’s candidates.

The legislation is clear.

The Ditch is challenging – in the High Court if necessary.

Unlawful election ballot gives FG, FF undue advantage
Why weren't small, legally required efforts made with the presidential election ballot?

The success of the far right is not only measured in votes and seats but in its impact on rhetoric, policy and ideology. The fact that a (nominally) social democratic head of government with a huge majority choses to say and do this is maybe the biggest success of the far right in Europe yet.

Donegal version:
- Inishowen is part of Derry
- Ballyshannon and Bundoran are part of Sligo
There are lots of patches of Ireland that are nominally County/Province A but their vibes are profoundly County/Province B.

Arklow is far more Wexfordy than Wicklowish.

Louth feels more Ulster than Leinster.

And there are certain parts of Westmeath that are to the east of certain parts of Meath.
Where I live is definitely in Kilkenny but spiritually it’s part of Laois

The (seemingly) contemporary-set film 'Anenome' has me wondering if Daniel Day Lewis has gone his whole career without once playing someone who could conceiveably have received an email. The Boxer is the most recently set of all his films (1997) but I don't take Danny Boy Flynn for the online type.
