The death of browsing is part of the reason art is the way it is now. Our opinions are largely fed to us by algorithms. Spending a spare 15 minutes wandering around a bookstore or comic shop or video rental place was how you found stuff you wouldn't ordinarily pick up and thereby expanded your taste
Bookselling is like the most "people go to the store and buy what looks cool to them without a particular agenda" type business left, and your purchases have a huge influence on what is ordered, what is displayed, and what is recommended.

This thread is great. I think anyone who works in a school can relate to these observations.
An issue we're seeing at all levels of university is that many students are simply refusing to do *anything*. They aren't reading the syllabus, aren't following assignment guidelines, aren't engaging with material, ignoring deadlines. And this might seem like old news, but it truly has ramped up.

I spotted this on Mastodon and I find it horrible, not least for the speed with which this has happened.

Don Mattingly sitting alone having never won a World Series after such a long storied career is heartbreaking. 💔😢

And then Bo comes over to give him a hug. 😭

This absolutely wrecked me. I am so grateful to have felt this much emotion from and for a team. 💙 😭

I’ve carried some baseball heartache around for decades, so I’m reasonably sure that I’ll go to my grave believing the 2025 Blue Jays deserved to win.

All I hope is that sometime between now and then, there’s another moment that helps assuage that pain.

Filled with a profound sadness this morning, but extremely proud of this team. Nobody deserved it more than this group of guys, who were so easy to root for.

John Schneider: “It’s hard, you know? I had my first team meeting of the year after the game. There’s so many things to unpack there … I feel for the guys. This is a special group of guys. That being said, I am so proud of them. … It’s tough to say goodbye to them.”

Think of all those games and all the moments the Blue Jays provided the fan base year. They were *that close* to crossing finish the line, but look how far they went. What a journey for this special team. They have everything to be proud of.

This team is so special and we were able to witness an incredible year. Heartbreak right now, but gosh what a ride.
