‪This weekend, I’m experiencing isolation vicariously through Wild Dark Shore by Charlotte McConaghy. So far, it’s a deep story with darkness lurking. Wonderful literary prose. ‬

Probably stopping eating fish is going to be only way
We need accountability and strict regulation so this doesn't happen. It's absolutely barbaric.
Tragically, a humpback whale was humanely euthanized in Oregon after being found stranded and entangled on the coast.

"The whale’s death is a painful reminder of a preventable problem: entanglement in fishing gear," says Oceana's Ben Enticknap. https://bit.ly/3Kb8lkv

In a new phase 3 trial, people randomly assigned to receive a flu shot made with modified mRNA were 34.5% less likely to be diagnosed with an influenza-like illness than people given a standard flu shot made with inactivated virus.

We need to stop the anti-science attacks against mRNA vaccines!

We were trained to believe that hard work and good ideas would translate into grants and papers. Now it feels like none of that is guaranteed, and the cost is paid by our families, our students, our teams, and the futures we hoped to build with them.

Weird thing happening where I + my colleagues, same convo on repeat: can't think about next year, next month, even next week. All I can do is wait for the next days or next hrs, close projects, write more grants that wont save us, sit in misery. This is what the fed govt is doing to science

“what happens when treatment is started even before Alzheimer's symptoms are evident: ‘If u look at the ppl who are treated in these trials, …the earlier stage u go, the better off they do. Some of them actually have been stable. And so, what this suggests is that timing is critically important’.”🧪
🧪A clinical trial for Alzheimer's has shown that removal of amyloid plaques in early stage of the disease slows cognitive decline; in particular, a 30% improvement. However, it doesn't stop dementia, it slows it down.

This comes at a time when budget cuts have affected research on this disease.
Promising clinical trials in Alzheimer's prevention
Washington University Medicine in St. Louis is conducting important research into treating early-onset Alzheimer's before symptoms arise.

So — is this good science?? Well, the risks of hormones have definitely been overstated, but there is a bit of nuance here.
