I saw The Way We Were last night in light of Robert Redford’s death (thinking I hadn’t seen any of his films.. but later… realized I had).

1. It was so good. 2. He looks like Brad Pitt! They could have been brothers! 3. I was devastatedddd by the ending. I was not prepared for that.

The world is waking up to the tragic chaos happening in the church where Christians are calling empathy a sin. But we should step back & say, do these folks even know Christ? Instead of asking why empathy is a sin, maybe we should ask, do they know Jesus? Likely not.

Can empathy lead to sin? Some conservative Christians argue it can
Some voices on the Christian right are arguing the virtue of empathy has become a vice. Those Christians claim empathy can manipulate people into accepting what they see as sins, like abortion access ...

America we have watched fear driven ideas of immigration that have ripped apart families, taken our neighbors and stripped our workforce. I think we are all ready for something different… we could instead have solutions based immigration reform.

Breaking news: Federal immigration officers may deport immigrants with as little as six hours’ notice to countries other than their own, even without assurances that the arrivals will be safe from persecution or torture, a top official said.
ICE memo outlines plan to deport migrants to countries where they are not citizens
The dramatic shift in policy could result in thousands of immigrants being deported to places where they lack family ties or even a common language.

I think more attention needs to be given to the fact that ICE has effectively criminalized noncitizens having certain tattoos, which is yet another blatant violation of the 1st amendment. Congress has not and may not pass any law limiting free expression in the US.

The US Institute of Peace is back after a judge ruled that DOGE illegally shuttered it & seized its building. But guess what? 40 years of research was erased so they are now having to rebuild it all. Also, they found rats (& reefers) in their seized building.

Pastor Maurilio Ambrocio, a 20-year U.S. resident with a stay of removal, was detained upon showing up for an immigration check-in last month. "You're gonna take you know a community leader, a pastor, a hardworking man," said Greg Johns, Ambrocio’s neighbor. "What, did you need a number that day?"
In Florida, an immigrant pastor's detention sends a community reeling
In one weekend in May, more than a 1,000 immigrants were arrested in Florida. The massive crackdown has Trump supporters asking why their neighbors were detained and must be deported.

At Pope Leo XIV's first Mass as leader on Friday, he pledged to align himself with “ordinary people” and not with the rich and powerful. Many see the first American pope as a continuation of his predecessor, Pope Francis, in his advocacy of the poor, migrants and a more open church.

Trump’s invocation of the Alien Enemies Act is a profound risk to everyone's civil liberties. By invoking the AEA and insisting migrants are part of an “invasion,” POTUS is:
❌ flouting the law
❌ abusing power against Congress’s intent
❌ seeking more unchecked authority
