There is a simple way to do this, actually. (Simple, not easy.) To tell if a person or authority is worth listening to. Are they using language of panic and fear? Or are they measured, couching answers in non-definite terms, referring to others findings, and refusing to be sensationalized?
like sorry to go on about this (and it's obviously anecdotal!) but it feels mad and worrying to me that this mum nearly lost her son and her conclusion wasn't "I should have listened to doctors more" but "it's up to me to do more research" - that's not good! and she's probably not an exception!

Kk. I gotta weigh in on this. I’m a graphic designer and a photographer and also have been fairly heavily involved in the horse breed show world in the past… this is *exactly* like horse breeding.
I thought the worst thing about it was the ridiculous hyper-airbrushed texture we’ve come to expect from this nonsense technology and then I saw the actual full ad and apparently this fake woman made of environmental ruin and stolen art is about eight feet tall

Garter snakes, my favourite
#WorldSnakeDay you say? We don’t have very many species here in Saskatchewan but we do have fabulous swimming garter snakes 🐍🌿

I have 1 acre of yard. I find this interesting as an intellectual problem… I’d need a specialized 4-season greenhouse. Definitely not cows, you’re looking at miniature goats if anything. Chickens don’t lay eggs in winter. Everything takes specialized equipment to process (flour mill, anyone?)…
taking a break from milking my anemic micro-cow to thresh the 126 individual stalks of wheat that make up the entirety of this year’s harvest

When a chatbot gets something wrong, it’s not because it made an error. It’s because on that roll of the dice, it happened to string together a group of words that, when read by a human, represents something false. But it was working entirely as designed. It was supposed to make a sentence & it did.

Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.

This is a good article on why symbolic protest is not useless and not just posturing.
In case you'd for some reason like to hear me bloviate about this at greater length:

Earth evolves plants. Plants evolve trees. Trees die, make coal and oil. Fungus learns to eat trees. Humans dig up coal and oil, make plastic. Fungus evolves to eat plastic…

In case you’re wondering what the point of your 40s is:
Sometimes I wonder what paths I would have taken if I’d been encouraged to find my own questions and answers, instead of being told I’d be rewarded for the right answers to other people’s questions.

So let's get this straight.
Taxpayers spent $34 billion on the TMX pipeline because no private company would take the risk.
That's $1200 per household.
We subsidize every barrel down the pipe by 50 cents on the dollar because Big Oil won't pay.
And now they want another one.
As the planet burns.

BREAKING: Crowsnest Lake is poisoned.
Selenium from a coal mine owned by an Australian company has contaminated trout & whitefish.

Where’s the UCP? Where’s Brian Jean?
Fishing families, Indigenous treaty rights, and Alberta’s rivers are being sacrificed for coal profits.

Hey authors! I’m trying to buy my ebooks on Kobo but they’re just not there! Help a reader out?
Friendly reminder to support your local independent bookstore this weekend!

A slightly less friendly reminder to just not buy books from Am*zon at all.
