This weekend, while celebrating my grandma's 100th birthday with family, I learned a distant cousin has some of our genealogy that not only says where in China our family is from but it goes all the way back to 960. (That is not a typo.)

If you aren't seeing skeets from some of your fave people, they might have been labeled "Rude" by bsky mods. Idk what they are thinking, I don't need a mommy to tell me who to be buddies with. Anyway, go into Settings > moderation > bluesky moderation (advanced) and turn Rude off.

Sometimes, living in NoVA means you look around at the fairly empty gym and ask yourself, "Is this because of the shutdown or because of election night hangovers?" and the answer could honestly be either or both.

I got two significant pieces of good news today and it feels..... weird? Strange? Neither of them are even about me but they were both very much not sure things so it's a relief to hear them.

I have so many post it notes all over and around my desk that are a mix of ones for two different jobs, cosplay, house things, and DnD notes and it's really starting to get to be chaos.

Well, tone of the ttrpg writing/designing contract gigs I was on just went up in smoke for reasons outside of my control. So, yeah if anyone has leads on a full time job; HMU in DM's?

Every now and then, I send someone (usually the DM) in one of the TTRPG campaigns I'm in a message that makes even me pause and go, "There is something not right with me." 🤣

So many people have asked me why I don’t try and be a full time writer/creative and the blunt answer is always that I am a single-by-choice woman who needs health insurance and a steady paycheck for her mortgage. A full time job is the only way. I just sacrifice sleep and free time to write.
Many full time creatives have “invisible safety nets” like bread-winning partners, trust funds, external support, etc. No shame on anyone, but it creates a false vision of success. The cost of going to cons alone on top of hoping to eat as a freelancer are untenable, IMO.
When people hear that I'm returning to part time work they often ask "are things not going well with your art?"
The problem really is things are going well, but the world is so unstable that I long for some consistency and income that I don't have to pay quarterly taxes on
