trump's breathtaking, revolutionary unilateral action could not be justified even in an emergency (and none existed when trump took office). He is claiming unilateral power that goes beyond what Lincoln claimed at start of civil war--& Lincoln crucially gained retroactive approval from Congress 1/2

I am working on a story that involves some of the ways people really are standing up in this moment. There really is a groundswell and it's not coming from DC.
I keep seeing regular Americans taking more risks every day to fight tyranny, want, and cynicism than I see from the opposition party, and I imagine many of those regular Americans are asking themselves what the value proposition of such an opposition party is, really

The answer Sen, Shaheen is that since America elected the Black man to be president, the official position of the Republican Party is “not to work together with Democrats to address the problems that are facing this country.”
Shaheen: "When I talk to my constituents in New Hampshire, you know what they say to me? They say, 'Why can't you all just work together to address the problems that are facing this country?'"

no one should be treated this way, but similarly to the people the trump admin is killing on ships in the Pacific and Caribbean, the trump admin acted against the law and did not actually know if these men were gang members when it sent them to be tortured in a foreign prison

Last thing abt this dumb article: it concludes that both parties should improve the structural conditions that make angry little boys like Nalin "go radical" or they'll consume our society.

We NEVER do this for young women, or say that society and the economy should be built around their feels.

"wartime footing" is also a way to claim power to act against the law. It is is illegitimate, but the kind of thing aspiring dictators try.
It's smart to be prepared for war, but to put the US economy on a "wartime footing" for an indefinite period of time comes at an immense cost to quality of life and is simply unsustainable.
Hegseth: "We are not building for peacetime. We are pivoting the Pentagon and our industrial base to a wartime footing. Building for victory should our adversaries FAFO."

Whenever secret police kidnap and disappear people, atrocities are happening behind the scenes.
Her husband told her that detainees at Broadview had to get up at 5am to get in line for one bathroom. He often peed himself. One time he had to wait until 2pm to use the bathroom. You could only use the bathroom once a day. He said the agents would beat you if you used the bathroom on yourself.

Reporting this story, I heard near universal concern from Heritage staff of discrimination against unmarried women.

Then I obtained a letter to the Heritage board from anonymous staffers that alleged the same thing — and more.

Heritage is aware that alleged behavior could create legal trouble.

Points out that agents keep arresting people and then letting them go without charges because they have no actual evidence
