Just as with immigration, as with the white working class, the good Labour story tellers don't fall for the division and set their own narrative, but the bad ones head straight into the trap and think they can deliver their way out of it, which is impossible.

This is *excellent*

And it’s not just economic policy where this applies. These sorts of cultural/diversion tactics apply to my work on transport policy too

Blogged: there are two political agendas - one on how to improve the real world and another dealing in fantasies and crank issues, and the latter is dominant: stumblingandmumbling.typepad.com/stumbling_an...
The two agendas
Why are UK infrastructure projects so expensive, and what can be done about this? To what extent is the rise of the far-right the result of economic stagnation? How can we raise economic growth given ...

Renewables are gaining ground fast but one of the hurdles is how to store excess energy to be deployed when production is low storage needed for weeks or months and not so limited by geographical location .

Enter liquid air energy storage

Is liquid air the new gold in energy storage?
Pressure will be on to reduce costs significantly if liquid air is to become mainstream

Unspoken in this "discourse" is that, when lockdown started, the Tories activated the break clauses for a whole bunch of Civil Service buildings.
Later, they had the cheek to demand a return to offices WHICH NO LONGER EXISTED!

Something wonderful for the weekend!

About 40,000 years ago, during the #IceAge, this tiny figurine was sculpted from mammoth ivory. Imagine the artist at work, sitting by the warmth and flickering light of a fire, carving what is the world’s oldest known sculpture of a horse!

Only just discovered that Microsoft's "New" Planner features (custom fields etc) are only unlocked by paying ~£8 / month *on top of* Office365. The Basic option's exactly the same 💩💩 offer from 2015. I sincerely hope #Notion continues to eat into their business at this point.

I’ve been called a communist many times in the past few days, because I oppose Trump. But the people levelling this accusation are perfect Soviet commissar or Chinese Red Guard material. All dictatorships are alike, and all are sustained by blindly obedient loyalists.

Our first post on Bluesky? It could only be one thing 👀

Are you missing the blue skies and lighter evenings this week? It’s been grey and overcast for many…

But will it be more of the same for the next 10 days?

Q. Do Microsoft staff ever actually use Microsoft software in their *actual* jobs? Planner, Loop, Teams, SharePoint, Lists, who is responsible for this pile of frustratingly disconnected, half-finished services and products?
Suspect Guilty GIF
Alt: Famous "we're all trying to find the guy who did this" GIF strongly implying that Microsoft staff may spend much of their time fighting with the software they themselves have developed and asking who is responsible for designing and developing such awful user-hostile software.
