I think in part the higher education funding crisis and the LLM-teaching crisis actually strike at the same problem, which is that education doesn't work without a broad, society-wide sense that the *actual content* of education - not the credential - is valuable.

Look at that, being held accountable for one’s actions.

This should not feel like a novelty or an outlier.

This will have devastating impacts on the social infrastructure of American cities and towns, especially in rural communities where the library is often the only game in town.
SCOOP: DOGE notified the Institute of Museum and Library Sciences (IMLS) today that the entire staff is being put on administrative leave effective immediately, I’ve learned from an agency source.

They’ll be cancelling huge swaths of grants/contracts and starting a Reduction in Force (RIF).

old Soviet joke for our times:

Guy stops by the newsstand every day, scans the front page, doesn’t buy the paper. One day the vendor asks what he’s up to.

Guy says: “looking for an obituary.”

Vendor says “those are towards the back of the paper, comrade.”

Guy says: “not the one I’m looking for.”

Noncompliance can happen in a myriad of ways.

If you are able to throw sand in the gears of tyranny, you must do so.
Yes. It is almost thrilling how many ways things can lost, or misplaced, or used incorrectly, and how often people forget, or stall, or send to the wrong place.

And don't let me get started on filing and copying.

Extraordinary and awful news. Very sorry for my many friends who work for and with USAID. And terrible news for the USA both internally and externally.

Dorothy B. Porter changed libraries 💜

The Dewey Decimal System used to only have two classifications for Black people: 325 (colonization) & 326 (slavery). Each book by a Black person was put into one of these classifications. A book of poetry? Classified as colonization.

I don’t care if you’re a relative, a fantasy novelist, or an elected official, transphobia is manufactured outrage and transphobe are trash.

None of America’s problems are cause by trans people. None.

But a LOT are caused by bigots.
