As my 10 year old grandson would say, “we’re cooked!”. We have exceeded the limit of 1.5 degrees on average daily temperature since the pre-industrial age for 12 months. That means most climate models predict irreversible changes which will have dangerous health and financial impacts for humanity.

US emissions from coal are expected to edge up in 2025. But, Trump’s push to revive another dead part of history is not the cause. Economists say the record US exports of LNG is driving up the cost of gas here at home making coal, the most expensive form of energy, look better by comparison.

Grrrr…..
As we have built out renewable energy, generation costs have been going down.
What is driving electricity prices has been increasing costs of upkeep and rebuilding our decrepit 80 year old transmission system - to harden against increasing climate extremes.

Can we name names? It’s Lindsey Graham, Bill Hagerty, Josh Hawley, Dan Sullivan, Tommy Tuberville, Ron Johnson, Cynthia Lummis, and Marsha Blackburn who want $$ cause their employer looked at their phone records. Such privilege! Such hubris!!
AOC: "It is unconscionable that what we are debating right now is legislation that will give 8 senators over $1 million a piece & we're robbing people of their food assistance & healthcare to pay for it. How can we vote to enrich ourselves by stealing from the American people?"

I’m a volunteer with the Sierra Club. We’re trying to figure out how to stop climate change AND environmental racism because they are the same thing. The New York Times thinks I’m “woke”, that I’ve lost my way. Whatever! I’m going to have fun trying! #sierraclub #sierraclubmi

This a really good place to start. The biggest failure of that NY times piece is a fundamental misunderstanding of how Environmental Justice IS now the environmental movement and that requires changes in the internal labor and social structure of environmental organizations.
There was an NYT piece last week about the Sierra Club, and (by extension) the current state of the climate movement.

I think they got three big things wrong.

Here’s an idea from Wisconsin. If data centers are such a boon for the state’s economy, the state can figure out how to protect its residents for increases in electric bills caused by those data centers. wisconsinexaminer.com/2025/11/12/w...
Wisconsin Democrats unveil bill to cap energy costs • Wisconsin Examiner
A proposal from Wisconsin Democrats would cap utility bills at 2% of a household's monthly income to reduce residents' energy burden.

This is classic strategy for environmental mis/disinformation. Throw out a red herring on a minor, insignificant issue and then say if the greens have one problem, they can’t be trusted on any problem.
Never thought that the NY Times would be part of the organized opposition at the U.S. of Texaco to take down the environmental movement, but here we are.

Gives the fascist regime even more license to take out NGOs that take on environmental justice issues after the evisceration of the EPA.

It was not the NYT’s best work.
only thing i have to add here is that this article focuses weirdly on like just 2019-2024, but from my experience as a state pac chair the org began re-framing around “environmental justice” a decade earlier and that focus was a primary reason the org found a new generation of supporters.
I was at the Sierra Club during the period described in this article and although I have my criticisms, it gets the issues in the Club fundamentally wrong. A 🧵
