As my 10 year old grandson would say, “we’re cooked!”. We have exceeded the limit of 1.5 degrees on average daily temperature since the pre-industrial age for 12 months. That means most climate models predict irreversible changes which will have dangerous health and financial impacts for humanity.

US emissions from coal are expected to edge up in 2025. But, Trump’s push to revive another dead part of history is not the cause. Economists say the record US exports of LNG is driving up the cost of gas here at home making coal, the most expensive form of energy, look better by comparison.

At the Thanksgiving dinner table, your uncle is going to say we shouldn’t control our CO2 emissions because China isn’t controlling theirs. Well…they are, for 18 months now. And BTW Uncle, do you leave 🐕 💩 in your lawn cause your neighbor does?

I’m a volunteer with the Sierra Club. We’re trying to figure out how to stop climate change AND environmental racism because they are the same thing. The New York Times thinks I’m “woke”, that I’ve lost my way. Whatever! I’m going to have fun trying! #sierraclub #sierraclubmi

“Under my administration we will be slashing energy and electricity prices by half within 12 months, at a maximum 18 months” - Donald Trump, August 2024. Average electric prices are up 11% from $15.93/kwh to $17.62/kwh since he took office. We’ve got some work to do. #globalwarming

Fossil fuels cause global warming. Global warming causes droughts. Droughts cause dust storms. Dust storms force changes in agriculture, shut down airports and highways, cause the spread of hepatitis and fungus infections and fertilize our surface water causing algae. www.bbc.com/future/artic...

Since Trump was elected the % of US voters who think we should join the Paris Climate Accord has increased by 6 point, mostly because of support from Republicans.

Trump is forcing Consumers Energy to keep the Campbell coal plant open. It is costing them the equivalent of $120/yr for each of Consumers’ 1.9 million residential customers. That’s a tax to support an energy system that neither the utility nor its customers want. www.cmsenergy.com/investor-rel...

AI is thirsty. The simple AI query drinks 2 cups. Some of that is used to cool servers. Most (~80%) is used to generate the electricity to run those servers. Coal, gas and nuclear power plants turn water into steam to move turbines. Solar and wind do not need water. spectrum.ieee.org/ai-water-usage

Dan Scripps, chair of the Michigan PSC, taking notes and hanging on my every word as I warn about the threat that data centers present to our clean energy laws. 😉🤭 Maybe not…the next day we got the announcement about a 1.4 gigawatt data center in Saline that will increase DTE’s load by 25%. 😠😡😤

The Michigan House, with help from @mihousedems, passed a bill package to invest at least $10 million in this speculative technology. $10 million in capital will get you 1 to 2 gigawatts in 10 years. That same investment will get you 3 to 5 gigawatts of solar in 2 years. www.msn.com/en-us/news/u...

Remember when some folks had a seizure about using 400 acres of DNR land near Gaylord for solar? Now some developer wants 1500 acres of DNR land in Kalkaska for a data center. What’s different this time? The monopoly utilities support it. And they drive our politics. upnorthlive.com/news/local/i...

Do you think regulated monopoly utilities should be involved in our politics? In Virginia, Dominion Energy formed an astroturf group, funded them, recruited former employees to be “regular citizens” at public hearings and hired a lobbying firm to train them. insideclimatenews.org/news/2310202...
