Gaston is a great character. Precisely because he is an admission of something rare in kids' media:

That bully at school? Might be they're just a thick-as-pig-shit unrepentant arsehole. It happens. Don't worry about trying to find common ground. He's just a dickhead and will go nowhere in life.

My dad abhors any negative comments about immigrants. Asked him recently why he’s so strong on it: ‘Because we’re always happy to take the rich and clever ones. Which means it’s not about disliking immigrants. It’s about disliking the poor and vulnerable. And that’s a bad human instinct.’
This is so disgusting.

I wish I didn’t have to share this. But the BBC has decided to censor my first Reith Lecture.

They deleted the line in which I describe Donald Trump as “the most openly corrupt president in American history.” /1

A great many white readers in 1967 were not ready to accept a brown-skinned hero. But they weren’t expecting one. I didn’t make an issue of it, and you have to be well into the book before you realize that Ged, like most of the characters, isn’t white.

There's a sector of the UK population that is always suspicious that, somewhere, somehow, someone is having an unsanctioned GOOD TIME and it drives them batshit angry.
Asylum seekers aren't crying and terrified all the time and that makes the Daily Express mad

Charlie Kirk spent his life‘s work and all of his energy and time targeting out-groups while arguing for a world in which gun massacres would be easy to enact, plentiful, and inevitable, and he became famous and wealthy doing it, and we’re now not supposed to mention that because it’s not polite.
