Hey. The fragmentation of the social media landscape has been hard on indie #scicomm 🧪 projects

So if you'd like to follow a podcast that's enthusiastic about #linguistics, could you check out @lingthusiasm.bsky.social?

And if you think your followers might like to, could you give this a repost?

It seems to me that the time is ripe for a Bluesky thread about how—and maybe even why—to befriend crows.

I miss summer & the leaves on the trees, but not why you think

My father told me the wind helps the trees sing, & if I listen carefully I will hear fragments of music familiar to me

I am surrounded by a symphony of my musical life in our summer woodland. It reminds me of him

My favourite fact about Iceland is that we have many, many crime writers but only one forensic pathologist, and he was so busy answering all of their questions that he decided to have a small seminar for writers to get some peace.

It immediately sold out so he had another one that also sold out.

Finally it's #HillfortsWednesday 🎉

During the 2019 excavations of Dinas Dinlle coastal hillfort in Gwynedd, I knocked up a pencil sketch of what the enormous 13-metre diameter roundhouse 🛖 might have looked like 🤔

It was good to help the public visualise this huge Romano-British home 🤩

Caules funus 😬😂
Trigger warning: death, family, brassicas.

My niece asked me recently whether I'd like a cabbage on my coffin when I die.

She laughed.

I thought for a moment, then said, yes. Yes I would like a cabbage. And I told her that SHE had to be the one to put it on my coffin.

She stopped laughing.

Fascinating.
When botanist Richard Deakin examined Rome’s Colosseum in the 1850s, he found 420 species of plant growing in the ruins: cypresses and ilex, pea plants and more than 50 types of grasses.

But some flowers growing there mystified him. They were so rare they were found nowhere else in Europe.

Excellent tips here. I get locked in sometimes to my methods, great to see other insights.
Here is a thread of some unusual materials you may find really helpful for #miniaturepainting #miniatures.

1. Isopropyl alchohol.
You can use this to thin paints and inks down so they run into only the deepest recesses. You can also add bicarb soda to this to make superglue accelerant.
