The erosion of trust in science & scientists — sometimes due to complex social/historical factors but often deliberately perpetrated by charlatans — has tragic, deadly consequences, and, if unchecked, is an existential threat to society.
"The vaccination has stuff we don't trust," said the father of the 6-year-old girl who died from measles at the end of last month. Tom Bartlett visited with a family confronting an unthinkable tragedy:

The one that gets me is SMP being LESS THAN HALF of minimum wage. Here's how much we think is the absolute minimum for someone to live a decent life on. Oh, a new mum raising a baby, which famously involves no additional costs at all? Oh yeah 45% of that should be fine.

time to bang my drum again, which is that statutory maternity pay is all that self-employed mothers get, which is mental and maybe one of the (many, many) reasons why people aren't having more kids
Oh yes: statutory maternity pay is… £184.03 or 90% of your average weekly earnings (whichever is lower) per week. If you did 37.5 hours a week on minimum wage you would earn (from this April) £457 a week.

The first measles death in the US in a decade -- the tragic, preventable death of a child whose parents chose not to protect them with vaccination -- should spark an immediate nation-wide campaign to ensure all children are protected against preventable diseases. Anything less is unconscionable.

They will go after archives.
