Something I realized the other day is that the concept of being "fluent" in a language applies to programming languages in the same way it does for natural language.

A native C-speaker who has to speak Rust when they aren't fluent in Rust will (subconsciously) think in C and translate to Rust.
do you consider code not a language? that is, what is the distinction you're drawing between english and javascript (or whatever)?

we use the same tools to talk about both: grammar, structure, semantics...

they've never been good faith. it's always been a cynical weaponization of free speech to gain power in order to enact their dictatorial ends

the goal is freedom for them at the expense of their nonwhite, nonwealthy, nonconservative enemies.
the free speech warriors are and have always been either operating in bad faith or too dumb to take seriously.

the people who know what they’re doing, like FIRE, are getting exactly what they’ve always actually wanted.
very cool that for ten years people at the heights of political commentary insisted to the point of rage that the paramount threat to free speech was “censorious” college students

1. Nearly a century ago, Nazis burned trans books to usher in fascism.

Now, Trump is doing the same, digitally burning all records of transgender people and striking the community from records.

This must be seen for what it is: a move towards atrocity.

UBI saves a ton of public money, but its lack of cruelty sends certain people into a rage, so it’s hard to put into practice.
Denver gave people experiencing homelessness $1k/month. A year later, nearly half had housing.

They also had fewer ER visits, nights spent in a hospital, and jail stays.

The report estimates that this reduction in public service use SAVED the city $589k.

Denver gave people experiencing homelessness $1,000 a month. A year later, nearly half of participants said they had housing.
Participants in Denver's basic-income program reported having more-secure housing, though results were similar in the trial and control groups.

looks like ranked choice voting isn't passing here. though tbh i don't get why ranked choice is what keeps getting on ballots. it's unintuitive and ultimately just sparkling FPTP. meanwhile i can explain approval voting in one line: vote for as many candidates as you want, most votes wins

When the children start dying, remember the names of the writers who held the pens.
Never forget who brought us here.

Never forget what The New York Times has done, by mainstreaming and legitimizing anti-trans bigotry.
Really uplifting to see the Supreme Court's right wing cycle through the themes of the New York Times' trans-scare coverage to find which one inspires which justice to reject equal protection

I really think that the NY Times has escaped accusations of click bait because it's cloaked in respectability and it should get hammered for it more.
The New York Times has been credibly accused of *inventing* the current anti-trans moment in the Democratic party.

They have been publicly whipping up anti-trans sentiment, intentionally and with consistency, for literal years now.

Do not reward them with views and clicks.
NYT is almost always going to focus on the the worst framings about the trans community. The sooner folks accept that and move accordingly, the better.
