I keep seeing a lot of super shallow left-ish observations that Carney winning as PM means that Canada “got it right”, but holy hell, y’all, this election pulled the country way further to the right.
Good:
* Poilievre isn't Prime Minister.
* Poilevre lost his own seat.
Bad:
* Everything has shifted substantially rightward.
* 40% of popular vote and +20 seats for Cons.
* Basically a two-party parliament of centre right and far right.
* Left leaning parties wiped out.

I didn’t think this story could get any more tragic. But this report, from the remarkable Kim Bolan, just makes everything more heartbreaking. And I hope it will help to quell the conspiracies, along with the craven political exploitation of this horror. It’s just tragedy piled atop tragedy.
