When you feel yourself becoming complacent or surrendering to hopelessness or apathy, remember that everything that exists today exists because someone(s) dreamt it up and decided to put in the work to make it a reality. We can create new ways of doing things, new ways of being, new worlds.

Thinking again about this piece by @miamingus.bsky.social from 2022:
"I need you to care about disabled people’s lives more than you care about a vacation, a party or a celebration. A cornerstone of being disabled in an ableist world is isolation."

This is such a great point: “Finding people who want to provide trustworthy information to their communities could be one of the most useful ways to be of service (e.g. information about current and future pandemics, weather, or anything that affects oppressed communities).”

Posted this on IG for my dear Alice last week.

"For those who don't have community (and for those who do), I'd offer that a pod of a few or more folks can help in the years to come...Even those part of a strong community can find pods useful, esp during a time that will be rife w constant crises which may drain many community members’ capacity."
"Building a pod for ourselves + being part of others pods is a critical kind of community infrastructure we can invest in creating. The kind that is endlessly adaptable, hard to destroy and a kind of renewable resource we can draw from again and again."

I can't repost this enough times.
People think resistance comes naturally, but forget that most people need to be shown how. They need it modeled and more so than that they need to be shown that it is even possible. That is part of the power of protests and other public forms of resistance.

Absolutely wild how extremely far right rhetoric on Covid/disabled people, that liberals and leftists rightly attacked MAGA for in 2020, has now been mainstreamed to the point that leftists/liberals are further right on public health than most MAGA people were in 2020. Julia outlines it well here
Liberals joined conservatives to mainstream anti-vax beliefs about viruses and public health

Watching this play out in real time has been mindboggling. At some point, liberals and progressives are going to have to reckon with this if we have any hope of making progress.

We should have listened to disabled and immunocompromised ppl.

We should have cared.
