When you feel yourself becoming complacent or surrendering to hopelessness or apathy, remember that everything that exists today exists because someone(s) dreamt it up and decided to put in the work to make it a reality. We can create new ways of doing things, new ways of being, new worlds.

People think resistance comes naturally, but forget that most people need to be shown how. They need it modeled and more so than that they need to be shown that it is even possible. That is part of the power of protests and other public forms of resistance.

Just read @miamingus.bsky.social's blog post on access intimacy. It explains why so many of us living with #lupus were devastated by @lupus.org's decision to scrub the LGBTQ community, and the Black and Brown community from their website.

Absolutely wild how extremely far right rhetoric on Covid/disabled people, that liberals and leftists rightly attacked MAGA for in 2020, has now been mainstreamed to the point that leftists/liberals are further right on public health than most MAGA people were in 2020. Julia outlines it well here
Liberals joined conservatives to mainstream anti-vax beliefs about viruses and public health
Viruses are bad for kids' health. Public health is a collective effort. Liberals no longer believe either.

Watching this play out in real time has been mindboggling. At some point, liberals and progressives are going to have to reckon with this if we have any hope of making progress.

We should have listened to disabled and immunocompromised ppl.

We should have cared.

Love this: "Where might we be if we interrogated the conditions that allow harm to take root + flourish? What more could be possible if we actively embodied connection + community? What could we win if we sought out concrete practices to close the gap between our professed values + our actions?"
"Isolation feeds into the oppressive systems that we’re seeking to dismantle...What happens at a larger scale is transmitted and manifests within our most intimate interactions, including the spaces that are seeking to dismantle violent systems." - Briana Perry

the construction of Cop City hinged on a compliant media that repeated false police claims and framing, private funders who see expanded policing as a safeguard for their capital, and state actors willing to serve those interests without question. none of that is unique to Atlanta!

Cop City is officially "opening" today. The movement against it carries so many lessons for people everywhere, because the issues are everywhere today: the un-democratic militarization and expansion of policing and state violence, backed by dark money private funding.

Periodic reminder this is FDA-approved for men as well as women up to age 45!

It covers 9 strains of HPV so even if you’ve been exposed to some, it can protect you from others.

It works on strains that cause cervical, vaginal, vulvar, anal, throat and back of mouth cancer. Low-key medical miracle.

This is an *active* current example of democrats helping to pass a law that will actively hurt people fighting civil rights and civil liberties in our current crisis moment. Either help the movement, get out of the way, or admit what side you’re on.
“The new charge would be a class B misdemeanor and apply if someone wears a mask or covers their face with the intent of concealing their identity while committing a class A misdemeanor or felony or immediately fleeing the scene”

Gov. Hochul, lawmakers strike deal on new crime of wearing mask while evading arrest
The deal between Hochul and the Legislature’s Democratic majorities clears a major hurdle to a final budget deal.
